Hi guys, I'm thinking of contacting local businesses and attempting to sell them Mobile Websites... The problem I can see ahead is: If I ask a potential customer for their host details (in order to set up their mobile website) they most likely will not know them and then they will have to approach their current web design company and ask for those details. I think it's pretty obvious that the current designer would then attempt to sell them the mobile website, this is obviously not what I want. Am I missing something here? |

2 things; 1) "Worrying" about something that "may" happen is NOT how to attempt to begin a business. There are jillions of "What Ifs" lurking out there in the "Real World"! "What If" this happens? "What if" that happens?" "What If" the sun doesn't shine in da morning?" WHAT am I gonna do? With all the business projects I've started I just do the best Research I can...get my stuff ready then....Lower My Head and....CHARGE! If something comes up that I hadn't planned for (it always does)...I take a breath, step back and see if I have to "Go Around" or "Go Up and Over"...the problem. Heck...when the pioneers were getting their covered wagons ready to head out...there was probably someone who though; "Hey! What if a wheel breaks?" "What if we get stuck in the mud?" 2) Set up a "Mobile Site Directory" (YourTownMobile.com) and create SUB-Domains for each customer. www.JoesTowing.YourTownMobile.com etc. YOU control what and who gets onto YOUR Server. Don Alm....Entroopeneer from waay baack |

I hear ya... loud and clear. Although I'm not "Worrying" about something that "may" happen. Just seems pretty obvious that the majority of business owners would not have access to their hosting company. This would leave them with no other option but to contact their web design company. Obviously the web design company would then make inquiries as to why the business owner would need the login details for their host. They get talking and that's me done.. Just seems like a real problem that needs taken care of BEFORE I commit myself to doing this. Great idea about the "Mobile Site Directory" (YourTownMobile.com) and create SUB-Domains for each customer. Could you elaborate some more on this...just want to be sure I understand correctly. Would I not still have the same problem as mentioned before? I want to take the customers current site and make it mobile so I'll need access to their host right? |

I've been looking at dudamobile.com and see they have a reseller program that looks great. What I'm trying to find out is if there is a way to take a customers current site and make it mobile WITHOUT the need to access their host? Anyone here familiar with dudamobile.com? Come on guys, help me out here. I'm out of a job and hoping to get this up and running next week! |

| "However at some point the mobile device redirection script will have to be inserted in between the head tags on their desktop site. There is no avoiding that." Perfect, that's all I needed to know. It's not really a trust issue but like I mentioned, don't want them contacting their webmaster as I'm sure he/she will be only too happy to create the mobile site themselves. Thanks for the job offer but I'm a one man show.. always have been! |

As for being a one man show, I just figured I would make mention of it as you have no experience in the industry, no training, and stated you were "out of a job".

When is started out i did what you are doing right now and that is looking for problems that may or may not occur, stop doing that right now because it mounts to nothing and it will only hold you back... Deal with an issue when the issue is a reality and not a second sooner, trust yourself and trust your skills... there isn't a problem in this business that can't be resolved. keep that in mind.

Mention the redirection script after I get paid... makes perfect sense . This looks like a great business opportunity and one I'm going to jump right on. Seems to be little competition around and the potential for high earnings is massive!

Hi I had a look at your bouncy castle website in the signature, as a matter of interest, am I right in believing you are in ireland ?, I could not see on the website what areas you cover. Have you registered your business on google places ? and do you intend to make a mobile version of this website. The owner of BIHA - British Inflatable Hirers Alliance, Bouncy Castle, Bouncy Castles, Bouncy Castle Hire, Bouncy Castle Sales, Manufactures and Suppliers, Inflatable Trade Alliance lives near me, Mark Jerram. He has a directory for bouncy castles, I am not sure if they have much of a presence in Ireland |

Their Reseller cost is $6 per month for each site created/hosted by them. We use them and have never been charged for more than reseller cost per website each month.

You can also make an agreement such as half of the payment once the site is ready and half of the payment once the installation/redirection is complete. You shouldn't worry about their web designer guy. He should worry about you

Normally, the hosting part comes at the end of the process. Once the mobile site is created, you would then get the hosting info. At this point, the client has already decided to use you as their mobile designer. Like others have said, there's no point in imagining potential problems. |
