FB SSL question via mobile sites
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hello,

If I build and host a mobile site for a client and their regular site has link to their FB page that they will want added to their mobile site, am I correct in assuming I need to host their mobile site on a SSL domain (i.e. https)?

If so I'm thinking I could just create a "subfolder" (i.e."m" or "mobi" or whatever name) on the SSL domain I'm currently using to host FB pages for my FB clients.

This way I will also be able to copy & use the images, from their regular website, and save them in their respective folders on my SSL mobile "subfolder" without having to worry about any SSL issues.

Am I thinking correctly here?

Thanks,
CO

The ONLY thing that needs SSL is any iframed content inside a facebook fan page in this case. Anything on the main site or the the mobile site is fine without an SSL, even if linking to the fan page, or vice versa.

THAT said, once you have an ssl for a domain, any sub directories are covered by that you set up. HOWEVER, subdomains are NOT, and will require a new certificate.

Honestly, the only practical times you need to even worry about SSL is for hosted order form/shopping cart checkout and iframing content inside of a fan page.

If In case you have an SSL certificate for a domain, any if you will have sub directory after the set up as per the following reply then you should go through wildcard SSL certificate which will cover unlimited sub domains security using single server SSL certificate. Wish you good luck!
