How QR codes work in the office
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Today I found out that if you own a brick and mortar business you now can use QR codes in the office as a way for employees to check in and check out.

You can check out the company who provides the service here:

TimeStation

I'm curious to know if you think this will work or not.

Definitely an interesting concept. Would be a much cheaper solution than most time & attendance solutions. I can see this working well for small businesses.

What if someone on your staff doesn't have a smart phone? There still are some "flip phones" / "go-phones" out there .. that just aren't the smart ones!

Still a cool concept.

Never even came to my mind! But how is it realized? Are there some kinds of turnstiles or what?

You dont need one as you set one up and they either scan their card or punch in a 4 digit code.

So basically the cost is to buy a itouch load the app then you create the employee and print out their card.

What if you were to offer to provide a "Key Card" with a QR Code on it.... that is HANDED to EVERY person who checks into a local Motel/Hotel?

On this KeyCard is a Picture of a PIZZA....with the words; "Scan To Have a Pizza Delivered to Your Room!"

Motel/Hotel guests are HUNGRY and ....do NOT bring food with them! When they pull the "KEY-CARD" out...so they can enter their room....they SEE a "Picture of a PIZZA"!

Holy Camoly! Do YOU think that Pizzeria Owners would WANT to PAY.... to have THEIR "Click To Call" button.....on the Mobile Website that comes UP on a "Motel/Hotel" KEY CARD?

Good Golly, Miss Molly! This is "HUGE MONEY POWER"!

When I proposed this to the owner of a local Pizzeria....the guy almost ripped my arm off....saying, "I'M IN....I DON'T CARE WHAT IT COSTS! I GOTTA HAVE IT!"

Holy Camoly! I'm sorry folks....all it takes to make MOOLA in this country is something that will HELP....ANY...business....bring in more customers!

The only way I see that working is if somehow gps/location is built in. Otherwise, what's to stop someone from abusing the system, by scanning in from some other location if they are late to work?

This system has several flaws so I don't see it taking off as well as expected. Not all employees can be expected to have a phone capable of running a QR code app and as mentioned above, this is easily abused as people could just visit the URL or scan the code from another location -- they don't necessarily have to be in the office.

Good idea, I havent been traveling too much lately, is there any advertising on the plastic key cards generally now? I only remember them to have the hotel logo on them. A great way to offer hotels free key cards as an easy way in.

I'd think the pizza place might go straight to the hotel after you give them this idea and just put their phone number on the cards.

What happens if you do not own a mobile phone which can read QR codes?

Midasman09, Most of the hotels using Key card Tech are Franchises of Large chains and have their Key Cards provided to them as part of the "Flag" as they call it in the industry.

That would mean having to go straight to corporate to even get it considered and then there would be the issue of Locale.

The manufacturers of the Key Card system generally are the ones selling the Magnetic Keycards which creates an additional hurdle.

I am not so sure there would be a cost effective way to approach advertising on Key Cards.

A clear label stuck on the cards would solve that in a hurry
