Hi All, I'm really keen to branch out to SMS marketing in addition to selling mobile websites. I can understand the concept behind SMS marketing and when I speak to some of my clients about it, they get really excited, as they can see the potential as well. The trouble is, I don't how to set it up for them where I can make money as well (ie I want to be able to charge them $X per SMS, but I can purchase them for $Y, with the difference being profit). For example, a restaurant client of mine would be keen to send out bulk SMS to past customers. So what I'd like to do is set up something where they could say, "SMS your name to XXXXX to join our VIP club", then their mobile number would be collected and added to the database, where the restaurant could send out bulk SMS to all the numbers, such as giving out discounts....What I'm after is some sort of training package/WSO that explains how to do it. I know there are a few WSOs here, but from what i've seen, they only work for the US, or certain countries that don't include Australia, which is where I am. At the moment, i'm staying local before I branch out for international clients. So, if anyone could give me an idea of how I can go about doing it or suggesting a WSO (affiliate links accepted!) for it, it would be much appreciated. But, IT MUST WORK IN AUSTRALIA! (BTW, the whole free SMS via Twitter doesn't work here in Oz unless the recipient has a Twitter account, unlike in the US...) Thank you in advance! Diver Doug |

Looks like we Aussies get ripped off yet again! I checked out BurstSMS and it seems to be quite expensive to maintain, as $49/month is a bit steep. Would it just be better to employ and overseas provider, such as Mobivate Bulk SMS | Marketing SMS | Mass SMS Service | Bulk Text Messaging | 5 cent SMS ? This has so much potential to help the client with advertising AND make someone like myself a stack of cash, but we seem to get held back by the bureaucracy that is the Aussie telecommunications industry....ARRRGH!!! Thanks for the reply, Will. Does this Twilio have better deals? I checked them out but I'm not too sure what i'm looking for. Why do they need to be here? Can't this be done overseas and the SMS sent to people here in Oz? |

I did a search for Aussie SMS providers and found quite a few. The one's I looked have some interesting pricing plans. The mark up here is 100% or more depending on how you buy and how many you are buying for. If credits are 4.5 cents (I saw that at one of the Aussie SMS providers) then charge 8 cents for it. If the business doesn't want to deal with the SMS console, charge them a management fee. Plenty of people here on the Warrior forum that can build Mobile web pages for you. mark their prices up at least 100% I have also been selling them on Google Places and Facebook fan pages to complete the cycle. After you make some money, have a coder build an interface to one of your local providers. I saw several that offered API access. That would allow you to basically create your own SMS service much in the same way Twilio lets you create SMS and Voice Automation using their API. Once you find a SMS service provider that has pricing you can live with and make money, the rest should be easy. |
