SMS Rocks My Home Town

Just thought I'd share this with you guys to show you the potential in SMS.

In my town, we have a SMS service that blasts out coupons. It's not just one business, it's every business in town going to the provider and owner of the list of subscribers and paying for a mass blast.

This was July of last year. A gas station, of all places, sent out a coupon via SMS for cheap gas. Furthermore; it is a little rinky dink hole-in-the-wall gas station. Only 4 pumps and they don't even have a fountain machine or cold drinks inside.

--Pile ups like this happen every time there's an SMS deal going on in town. EVERY TIME.

Awesome! I have been targeting restaurants and nightclubs, didn't think about a gas station...very cool idea indeed 8-)

Great post! SMS marketing is the way to go! Also, think about expanding your marketing towards multi-channel marketing. Find that preferred mode of communication between your customers!

This really makes the wheels start turning about what SMS marketing could do in smaller towns. The subscriber lists wouldn't be too huge, but if everyone in town was subscribed, it presents a great value to the businesses.

Great post here. I was actually going to do a similar thing. Instead of trying to get each business to start their own SMS, I figured I'd build a list for them, and they could pay me to blast a SMS out. I'm trying to go in through the backdoor of building moble sites. I'm busy with my online business and yet to get to SMS, but I'm close. It's encouraging to see others seeing great success.

Hi Shane,

Do you have any idea what the service is charging for each blast? Is it a one time charge for each blast? Monthly fee plus blast charge?

If you know, or could find out, I'd sincerely appreciate it. I'm looking to start something like this as well.
