just wonder how do you deal with updates your clients mobile sites. do you do it yourself for them for monthly fee or you let your customer do it . i think it is also depend on the hosting ( your hosting or your client hosting).
this is going to be a major issue once you will have a lot of clients (hopfully)
that you need to take care of .

I am hoping for this issue and bought a guide to outsourcing today on the forum. I am not an affiliate but it seems pretty good for finding quality help. It is the OUTSOURCING BLITZKRIEG 2.. Worth the small investment.

I personally do not offer hosting or updates, because from my own experience, no matter how much they pay, they will certainly require more of your time than you expect. I know there are fellow warriors who offer updates etc. and make good money, but that's my preference. I'd rather build another mobile site in the time that I spend for updates.

This would depend on many factors:

1. They have an existing site and web guy, and you put the mobile site onto a sub domain. Their web guy could probably do updates on the mobile site and so you'd only get a one off payment for the site build.

2. They have a website and a web guy they aint spoke to in years. You get access to their FTP etc, put the site on a subdomain and become their new web guy. You can update their main and mobile site for either monthly mantenence fee or hourly rates whenever they request changes.

3. You get them to change hosting over to you. You charge a monthly hosting and maintenence fee.

4. They are a new company, and you host their site/mob site. Charge them for just hosting, or for maintenance and hosting.

5. You use Wordpress to create the site and give them a simple instruction guide on how to update pages. In theory a CMS system should be charged at much more than a basic site, because their is no long term value in the client. You simply give them the product and they make amendments. You could get a monthly hosting fee if you host this site.

These are just 5 scenarios I thought of right off the bat, there will be no doubt others that crop up. You need to think about what you're willing to do. You can be very personable to your clients, stay in constant contact, especially if you are charging a monthly maintenance fee. But there is a danger, as has been mentioned that some clients may want much more of your time than they are actually paying for. One potential bonus to the hosting & maintenence method is that some business owners simply wont want to make any changes to the site, or they dont get time to let you know. So you are making a decent amount (more than just a hosting fee) monthly without doing anything.

Alternatively you can do and in and out job. Get in, do the build and leave them. Let them call you when they require updates or more web work. This way, if you are hosting the site you will be making a small amount each month on hosting, and should they come back for any work from you, you can weigh up time and costings it'll take. Again a danger here is that the client is simply too busy to think about and come back to you to make any changes and so you're limited to the minimum monthly hosting fee.

I've looked at Dudamobile....hard....and within seconds their program pulled ALL the stuff on an existing site....to their Mobile version. They also say their program will automatically UPDATE any changes.

They say they have 200,000 mobile sites in their system AND...someone told me Google bought them.

It's a company based in Israel. I read where they went into Mobile, Alabama and in 2 days, sold a couple hundred mobile sites with a bunch of salespeople.

I haven't tried it yet but...$9 a month....I'm getting ready to give them a try. Only 2 drawbacks; 1) All the photos don't come over (These are not "flash" photos) and I'm not sure how hard it will be to manually transfer them 2) The sites must be on their server.

Maybe someone else has some real first-hand experience with them.

My personal preference is to give the client the choice. Offer them a couple of packages where the first would be that you just do the mobile site for them and walk away and the second being that you offer them a maintenance package to go along with the mobile site. This allows you to collect recurring monthly revenue for usually not that much work.

I have found that mobile sites do not require that much maintenance, except for things like updating coupons, updating menus, etc. Some industries are not going to require any maintenance and all they are going to want is for you to do the mobile site and they don't need any updates at all.

As far as doing the updates, if you have the technical expertise then do it yourself, it usually doesn't take that much time. Or just outsource it and don't worry about it yourself.

Just my 2 cents...
