Can i create a subdomain through ftp?

I had asked my client to provide me with their hosting login details. They have provided me with their ftp login details. I don't believe I can create a subdomain through ftp, is that correct?

My client is dealing with their standard website creator, I don't believe he'll give us the hosting login. Is my best bet to host the mobile on my server and ask the webmaster to put the redirect script on the standard site? If so, I know he'll charge my client and that will probably kill the deal.....

Thanks all

You probably only have access to /public_html and not where the DNS configuration is stored via ftp.

Options.
  1. Use a subfolder the site ex. example.com/mobile
  2. Add a "A" record for m.example.com and point it to your server. You can then host m.example.com on your own system.
  3. Sell them a .mobi domain and host it yourself.

Yes, you can't really create a subdomain through FTP. Worst case scenario would be to put the mobile site in a subfolder such as website.com/mobile or on it's own separate domain.
