Interesting read, restaurants handing out IPads at tables.

This was in the local paper this morning. I thought it was interesting. Right now they are using the tablets for entertainment and to place drink orders, etc... They have thought about selling advertising on them. I thought that maybe the first thing a customer should see is a QR code/short code to opt in to receive SMS deals or maybe download their app. Here is the link;

At Buffalo Wild Wings, iPad as waiter | StarTribune.com

I give them credit for giving it a try, but I just cant see beer and hot wings mixing to well with a touch screen device unless they're able to protect it in some way.

Also, most banks can't keep ballpoint pens attached to their counters, how is a restaurant going to secure $500 ipads safely?

I'll be curious to see how well their test works!

In reading the Article it turns out those iPads are going to generate revenue as they intend to sell advertising space on them, which to me is almost a modernized version of placemat advertising sales of yesteryear.

As for the thought that people might walk out the door with them? I imagine there has to be some sort of antitheft system in place. You can't walk out of an Apple store with one...so I imagine you wont be able to walk out of the restaurant with one either.

I am also going to bet that they have some sort of protective casing on them as Liquids and electronics don't get along well.

No matter how the test works out for them...the results should be interesting.

Once they start selling advertising on those iPads, I would check out each of those companies to see if they could benefit from services you offer. There is bound to be a future client hiding somewhere on that iPad.

I've got dreams that are bigger than my reality and pride that's worth more than a salary
