Collecting Mobile Numbers with QR Codes?
Share on:

I'm using LimeCellular starting monday, and was wondering how you can allow the customer to enter their mobile phone number themselves. I was thinking using their mobile site builder you could put a form on there. Use the QR code tool to link it to that web page and allow them to sign up using their name, number and email. After which they would receive their free coupon.

However I was unsure if this is the only way to do so. Now I will have to sell them on the idea of having a mobile website, or include it in my package. Or is there a way to automatically collect numbers using the QR code, without linking them to a mobile website?

Maybe I'm not understanding what you're asking, but isn't the most direct way for a customer to get their mobile number into your text messaging list to text your "keyword" to 12345?

Yes it is, actually limecellular messaged me. Because I want to get more than just their number. I want to get their occupation type. So like if they're a student, or have a full time job, I will know not to send out a text message to a full time worker at 9 am on tuesday for breakfast. I'd like to find more ways to better target this, but so far that's the best I've got as far as better targeting for texting.

Limecellular told me I can just link it to facebook or their website and have a custom form there.

Hello,

You can't collect nothing just using qr code. User must have internet connection and you must link the qr code to a landing page. No need to offer a mobile website...you can do that you need with a Mobile landing page which can include all fields you want:

Name, Last name, Phone, Cel, Email, Best time to call, Interest, etc

Mobile landing page should be hosted in some server...so you only have to create a qr code linked to wherever that mlp is installed.

You can also integrate your autoresponder to that form with Aweber, Getresponse, Mailchimp, or just get those leads to your inbox.

If you need help with this let me know.

Regards

You can set a QR code to send a keyword as an SMS message but forget about "occupation type" for now, just concentrate on getting subscribers to a good offer. Don't complicate it especially when you are starting out. Just make is super easy for people to opt in to get your coupon or offer.

If you ask people to cough up their name, phone number AND email at one time, you are going to really limit the people who actually sign up. I would venture to say that virtually NO ONE will sign up to your list when they have to jump through that many hoops. Its like asking someone to marry you on the first date.

I've used scripts that allow for people to text in their email address and that captures both their phone number and email (aweber) but even that might be overkill. Make it super simple for people to get what you offer and they will subscribe.

If you are using lime go to the advertiser account, then edit the contact list associated with your desired keyword, then tick the "apply profile grabber" field it is a new feature that will request full name and zip code, and email address with additional text messages to the user after they opt in the user can then reply with their info. You can adjust the verbiage of the autoresponders on the contacts tab
