How can we find the real url of a mobile website? I've tried the m. and the .mobi ways of adding them to the website's url, but for this site neither one of them worked. For example, a site has the url of pizzahut.com and their mobile site is m.pizzahut.com. If I didn't already know what the mobile site's url is, how could I find it? I want to send the link for the desktop site to a viewer to see it in a mobile simulator and I want to send them the link to the mobile url in the same simulator. Does anybody know how to find the link to the mobile url? |

The mobile version of a site doesn't have to follow any particular protocol, with regards to what the actual mobile web pages are named, or where they're located within the site. A mobile page of a site could be located at www.website.com/xyz/3749.html just as easily as it could be located at m.website.com. That said, you might be able to figure out the URL/s of a site's mobile pages by either... 1) Searching Google for "site:website.com" (which will show all pages of the site that are indexed by Google) 2) Looking through the source code of the site's homepage, to try to determine if there is any Javascript code that redirects mobile visitors to a specific mobile page of the site. Of course #2 will not work if the mobile redirect is served via PHP or htaccess, which is fairly common. |

There's no standard procedure for this. Because of all the different methods of redirection and the different ways people host their mobile sites, it can often be quite hard to find the mobile website url. This is why I recommend if you are only doing this to find out which companies you should contact or not, you are much better off not worrying about this and just contacting businesses right away. You may come across a few that already have a mobile website but who's to say they won't want to upgrade to yours or have other questions they want to ask you about mobile marketing. At worst it gets your name out there.

Use your phone to browse the site and you will automatically be redirected to the mobile website. If it's on another link than you can easily see it in the address bar of your mobile phone browser. If the link isn't different than the regular one it means they are using an separate css stylesheet which shows different types of sites depending on the device visiting, so you can't use it in a simulator, or maybe just in mobilizer. Hope it helps. |

Maybe it would have been easier for me to post the site I'm looking for. The desktop site is: Jack's - Birmingham's First Fast Food Chain Since I don't have a smartphone, I've been viewing their mobile site on some of the different simulators but I can't find the url (if there is one) for their mobile site. Any clues? Thanks, Mike |
