About Hosting Mobile Websites for Customers
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

When you host a mobile site for a customer that doesn't have access to their hosting or can't get their web guy to respond, how do you redirect or direct mobile searchers to their new mobile site on your host?

Do they have to get a mobi domain?

Regardless of whether you use a .mobi domain or their own domain, either way you will need access to their current hosting in order to install the mobile redirect code. It can't be done otherwise. Besides, it's not very good for a business to have no access to their own website hosting so this is something you should help them with. You will need to contact their hosting company and retrieve the Control Panel details.

Thanks. Thought it was Quentin who talked about hosting them for customers who didn't have access to their sites or hosting.

You can host them for your clients but unless you can get access to their main website, you won't be able to automatically redirect the mobile visitors, so it doesn't really solve anything.

WillR is right, sometimes webmasters can be pretty grumpy and can sometimes be "gatekeepers" that don't want to open the gate so easily for someone else to move into their territory. It happens all the time, best bet is to contact the webmaster directly be kind and courteous and usually they co-operate.

Hope this helps!
