I have been wondering about this, and haven't seen it addressed anywhere before. I was forced to deal with it today when a prospective client called me about setting up sms for his business. I just told him that SMS is designed for group texts, and won't drop or lose texts, which I implied would happen if he just tried to use his own phone, since his phone isn't made to handle that kind of load. He seemed somewhat satisfied with my answer but said he still had to talk it over with his partners first. Anyway, I have an Android phone, myself, and there doesn't seem to be a limit to the number if contacts I can send a mass text to...and I, like most ppl I know, have unlimited texts...so why would someone with a smart phone need to pay a separate company extra for SMS instead of just using their phone? Have any of u been asked this, and what is your response?

This is like saying "why would anyone want to use a service like Aweber when they can send unlimited emails from their own email account"?

Its the list you want to build and you need a database to do that. How would someone "subscribe" to a list using a phone call or keyword and get their number into the biz owner's phone? To do it the way you are saying, the biz owner would have to enter them all manually on their phone right? Then how would someone be able to unsubcribe?

I have my clients be able to send a message to their entire list from their own phone, but they send one text to their Twilio number and the message is then sent to the entire list. One has 750 subscribers. I don't think the manager would have wanted to enter 750 phone numbers, then delete them when people want to unsubscribe.

Great points. I also happen to use twilio. How do u set it up for them to send texts to their twilio number that go out to entire group?

use the dispatch plugin and give permission to one cell phone number only to dispatch to the list. Anyone else replying or sending on the number gets a txt back saying they do not have permission.

There's many features lacking from group SMS texting, for example:

- Mobile Keywords
- Ability to schedule messages to send out
- Ability for recipients to opt-out
- Ability for recipients to opt-in
- Premium features such as mobile voting, shuffle responder, text to screen, mobile coupons

You need specialized software to do that. There are several WSOs with easy to use plugins - I'd recommend you look at mine (just search AdwordsMogul in warriorplus) or take a look at Chad Wyatt's work too (also on this forum, available as WSOs).
