Mike,

Here are some sites to get you started:

HTML5 Tutorial

Why HTML5 Rocks - HTML5 Rocks

Apple - HTML5

There's definitely a lot of great features with HTML5. Things like video, audio, 3D text, and a lot more styling options as well.

Personally right at this moment in time i dont think the mobile market is totally ready for a pure HTML5/JQuery ONLY experience

However give it 18 months am thinking HTML5 and JQuery is going to dominate the mobile web...

Right now smartphones penetration is about 50% of mobile users and network coverage is barely reaching 4G LTE speeds, thats still a lot of people who cant take full advantage of HTML5 and JQuery on their phones

Whilst a lot of feature phones run Android many of the features of HTML5/JQuery really require a touch screen and specific hardware features built into the phone

for now i am using more of an adaptive approach thats friendly to both smartphone and feature phone users so that at least any HTML5/JQuery features i use degrade gracefully for those that cant access it... that way i dont alienate any mobile visitor and they still have a good user experience

Sorry, I am too busy helping people to think of a cool signature!

I don't like putting HTML5 and JQuery as one and the same thing because they are not. HTML5 is the new HTML and so it is definitely going to be what we are all using in a year or so. But from what I have tested with JQuery, I don't think I'll be using much of that. It has a LOT of limitations and I can see myself designing much better things without the limitations of JQuery. That's just my personal opinion but keep in mind that JQuery is just a single framework developed by one company and is not a web standard by any means.

Great replies thanks

Here in the UK, we are waiting (but not holding breath) for 4G to be introduced, 3G still doesnt have great coverage to be honest, the powers that be seem to want us to be a 3rd world country .

Really looking for simpler cross platform friendliness for APPS etc to bring the R&D costs down as well as the mobile sites being improved

We in the UK won't have 4G until Ofcom actually get off their arse and auction off the spectrum which they've delayed twice - let alone when the operators will invest the necessary moolah to beef up their networks. Hardly surprising that Sweden has been up and running for over a year, but what is surprising is that countries as diverse as Armenia & Uraguay have 4g networks.

I believe that when HTML5 picks up momentum it will be far preferable for users to just browse HTML5 website apps than install apps.
