Hello, I am getting into mobile marketing and learning as much as I can about ad and affiliate networks and tracking services and cpa etc, but like so much else on the web, new twists and terms are being added all the time. I know there are at least two types of ways to profit from mobile, 1.Placing ads in 2. Making mobile web sites mostly. SMS doesnt appear to be new, but has not come up in what I have learned about so far, and yet I keep seeing SMS on the forum. It appears to be a different branch of the mobile market and I cant seem to grasp how it fits in, how money is made from it? Specifically how it is different and similar from the regular kind of mobile marketing? For example, I am supposed to get hosting for a vps or dedicated server to run, but then people are talking about paying SMS people 30-150 dollars or more a month. Is this into add[tion to a dedicated or vps host? Or do people buy minutes wholesale and sell time retail? How many different branches are there in mobile marketing? thank you. |

Take another look at that thread. SMS and mobile websites are two entirely different animals. They are stand alone products that blend well together. SMS is not just for local businesses. It can be used in any type of business, regardless of what type. Now, it works very well locally. But is not restricted. Anyone selling online can build a list to inform clients of sales, ask questions, take polls, etc. In my opinion, you are missing out on a good revenue source if you dismiss sms out of hand. Take a look at this thread. http://www.warriorforum.com/mobile-m...tes-alone.html |

Okay Rymicom, I will take your advice and read more carefully. thanks! People on this forum really do seem to be focusing more on the building mobile web sites for local clients over any the other kind of mobile marketing, I am not sure what to call it, running campaigns? I was trying to keep focused. Its real easy to get lost and paralyzed on reading/absorbing information and you turn around and weeks and months have gone by.

There are a lot of posts I see where they are giving a mobile site as an extra value on a total sell. Personally, I do not give away anything. May be right, may be wrong. If you present the products well, I do not believe you should give away your service. Now, I am in a town of 120K and I am the only one selling sms. So, my story may be different. My main focus is on the sms. Once that is rolling, I talk to them about the mobile site. I find a sms plan easier to promote than a mobile site. My card says I am a mobile marketing consultant. So, I go with what seems to be the biggest need of the client. Most of the time that is the sms. But, my inquiry questions may lead in that direction. lol Rodney |

I used to feel the same way. Free seems to devalue stuff easily but the Freemium business model is thriving right now. There has been a huge shift to free with upsells and I'm sure it's here to stay. A free website design for an annual service contract seems to be the better way for some business owners.
