Mobile Commerce CMS?

Hey guys!

I'm planning out a mobile commerce service, offering online stores a mobile version of their site.

Any m-commerce specific CMS out there? On WF or other?

There are a bunch of third party M-commerce offerings out there, that range in functionality and price so its best to do your research and see what is the best fit for your model. M-commerce is not as big as one may thing at this point but its growing as people are getting more comfortable with the idea of doing commerce on their smartphones.

Google recently published this interesting fact in their Mobile Playbook:

"mobile customers use store locators 63 times for every one mobile commerce order" so you can see where people are using mobile at this point in time and its generally on a hyper focused local level.

I think Kevin is correct; there just isn't the traffic right now to justify a separate m-commerce store for most businesses.

For my money the future is going to be in responsive ecommerce layouts that will match the browsing device without the need for an additional code base for mobile devices.

I am using opencart with a responsive theme, they work great together,, very robust shopping cart,, (no affiliation)

What the hell are you talking about? You are quite frankly a stupid human being if you are a online store owner and you are not investing in a mobile version of your site for now and the future.

Very courteous of you for someone who is just chiming in with their opinion and offering up some information.

Your statistics are great but the fact of the matter is AT THIS POINT IN TIME people are utilizing the mobile web more often for reasons other then mCommerce not to say this won't change moving forward.

Did I ever say you should not build or totally discount mCommerce all together? No.

Maybe you should actually read posts and give them some thought before you go on personal attacks in the future.

I would say they had the whole site custom coded from scratch but it's definitely a good example of a nice clean and user friendly m-commerce site.

Lol, that's what I thought too! But of course that's not what he said. If you read his full quote he is referring to an online store owner being stupid IF they don't ALSO have an M-Commerce store as well.

Maybe it was I that jumped the gun.

Nonetheless a business owner is NOT stupid if they are not doing m-commerce at this point. The ROI is simply not there for a small retailer unless there is a specific need. Within the next 5 years this will surely change so its good to have solutions and roadmaps in place for this growing adoption.

If a business is already selling products on their regular website then it makes sense to also have a mobile version of that ecommerce site developed. 5 years is a long time. mcommerce sites will be popular within a year or two at most. Mobile is going to continue to move VERY fast. Those who don't keep up or say "we'll wait until it hits" are going to be left for dead.

Good point, but at what cost?

If a consultant or developer is going to be charging a small retailer thousands upon thousands of dollars to integrate an m-commerce site, and the volume simply isn't there to justify such an expense, you will see quite a bit of push back from the retailer (as I have personally seen many times over).

Just because a small business has an e-com site that is doing well with sales doesn't mean that the same will translate onto the mobile side or justify the expense.

So a proper evaluation and consultation of a businesses source traffic would need to be done to even consider going down that road.

M-com technology IS there but consumer confidence in it is not.

Remember I am only talking about small retailers on a local level.

You are correct that consumer confidence in mobile web and mcomerce will continue to improve (maybe much faster then my personal estimates) but its best that we as mobile marketers, developers and consultants are properly prepared as the market continues adoption to m-com.

I am trying to find a CMS or similar solution so I can build these sites quickly and efficiently and charge small business owners under $500.

Of what you guys are talking about, I'd rather be the first to have a mobile commerce site than the last guy. Wouldn't you? I don't think it'd take too much convincing from that point of view. Everybody wishes they had been at the beginning of something huge.

Like, I wish I would have been here at the beginning of Warrior Forum,, or email marketing when there were no rules,,, or Facebook marketing,,, or ppc marketing when you could buy cheap keywords and rank 1st. The list goes on........

You can use cart software to get all the benefits of mobile commerce. Whenever you think of creating a mobile website, do not forget to use a cart software. This will make your mobile site flexible and user-friendly.

You can't just have paypal button all over the place if you have 100 products in store and let people buy one at a time.

Is there any solution for this?Can this be done using your cms system?

Solution for now would be WP based mobile site with a cart plugin. Most cart checkout pages are not to big, so maybe using the existing platform of your shop would work to. I mean have the checkout button lead to a mobile friendly frame or so. And an add to cart button is nothing more then an url pushing info right?

Here in Holland we have things like Ideal to pay online which is the most used. But its not mobile friendly itself since you need your debitcard and a reader to pay. Most people dont carry those around. So most likely mobile paying will be thru online wallets or paypal. And this you can intergrate with a plugin like opencard which you can use on a WP mobile site like someone already mentioned.
