Default Outsourcing Mobile App Development. Iphone/ Android.

I have a new SEO/Consulting business. I already have a few clients and I want to offer iphone/ Android mobile app development for my client's businesses. Could anybody tell me the best place to outsource this. And what is the cost to get this done? Thank you

I'm not sure of the best place to outsource this but I can tell you asking for the cost is like asking how much it costs to build a house. It depends on a whole heap of factors. No too apps are going to cost the same unless they have identical features and content.

i looked into it and found out u.s. based app developers asking a hundred per hour. outsourcing to distant lands has a trail of nightmares, maybe one in seven go smooth n timely to completion.

@MRCGHILL use www.odesk.com. That platform allows you to find what you need in terms of development. They pre-screen the developers as well with testing and then the project is hosted by them so the developer must log in to work on the code. Thereby easily tracking progress and billable hours.

Be forewarned. I would suggest you have a plan on what exactly you want these applications to do. Outsourced engineers are not product designers. Using an Engineer to design your UX/UI is not a roadmap to success. I would suggest finding yourself a UI/UX guy/gal that can work with you in house to develop the product and product plan before you hand it off to outsourced developers.

Are your Clients all in the same vertical? Can you develop the same application that translates across that spectrum? If not, I would suggest bailing and keep your focus on a mobile website. HTML5 is a newer technology that IMHO will overtake native mobile apps over time.

So more detail on what you want to do is helpful. You are talking about a price window of 1-300k. Just depends what you want to do.

I agree with TextPert, oDesk is a good place to post a job. You might try Freelancer as well.

You should be able to find a good coder in the area of $15-$25 per hour on either site.

Just have your app laid out ahead of time as mentioned before.

One thing to be careful of is there seems to be a lot of companies, many in China, that are doing some crazy things with pricing. With so much buzz in IM world lately, with app courses, these firms are raising prices like crazy and taking advantage of newbies.

Just be thorough in your due diligence.

Whilst I agree in some parts HTML5 is a good competitor for apps, its not a silver bullet.

The reason for this is because:

1. Apple don't like Native apps that are just HTML5. But sometimes I've heard people getting through on HTML5 apps
2. If you are wanting to sell in-app purchases, news-stand or subscriptions, you won't be able to use HTML5. Some third-party software like Appcelerator do have libraries for it, but I've been told they are not great. For IAP I would firmly use Native every time.

I do iPhone app development and have links to Android developers; but I'm not sure what kind of budget you're looking at. If you can drop me a PM maybe I can help out further.

Thanks

There are usually questions regarding the functional and non functional requirements if you use odesk or other websites which proposals are not very clear which is included and which is additional fee. I’m specialized for more than 10 years through projects in Germany and Europe for requirements, quality management, including testing and successful handover to the customer.
I have several certificates in CMMI, SPICE, PMI, ISTQB and Agile methods (SCRUM Master, Product Manager)
This provides the customer only one contact person to clarify everything, so he does not get every day questions about Fields, requirements, process, workflows do’s and don’ts.

Depending on the app and/or website requirements, I work with several agencies, but I’m responsible for the whole coordination. So you don’t have daily skype conferences with all the stress and sometimes you need to push the people to deliver in time and in budget, which should not be underestimated.

If you are interested to realize your project/idea in budget, quality and time then you can contact me.

Lot's of good replies here already. One thing to consider is that offering this kind of service (from what you said above) is outside of your wheelhouse (personal expertise). Developing software and apps isn't easy, that said, it is doable.

I'd probably first try and find a qualified project manager that you could use to help you manage these projects. If you have clients who don't know that much about apps, and programmers who don't understand quite what you want, things get hairy.

Having 'a guy', can help make you look better in your client's eyes, improve your ability to extract the right information from those you serve, and enable you to communicate effectively with your developers.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. I second Odesk for all of this.

@MadisonSEO "How Much Should I Spend On My iPhone App?" -- it depends on what its doing. If its a game, be prepared to pay big bucks (> $10K). If its a business app, and your using HTML5 it should not cost you more than 3-5 maybe 10k at most. But it really depends on what your doing/trying to achieve.

If its a native app, or you're wanting an app with IAP, subscriptions, or need it to do a lot of interactivity (downloading media, content, handle user logins, things like that) then it can cost quite a lot. Usually agencies start at the $2500 range but obviousily you can just hire developers overseas on odesk at get it at a 1/3 of this price.

It all comes down to what you're wanting to do.

Madisonseo -- I'm happy to give you some free consultancy on it, you don't even have to buy from me, but I can give you at least some help on it if you're struggling on it.

zardon has given you the right answer. if you go odesk or freelancer you will easily get a coder at a very cheaper rate. this is what most of them do Specially America and most of the developed countries.

Are you looking for Content, Games or Utility apps?

I will cost around $1500 to create your Content app. I can do that.

Hi,

You will need a graphic design and an objective c programmer. It will cost you more than $4000 for a simple app.

@Madisonseo There needs to be more context to your requirements.

I'm sure the members of WF will help you. @samsharen $1500 sounds about right for a content app, assuming MadisonSEO doesn't want to pull in data from a third party or wants to talk back/forth with a website.

Regardless, I think it would be easier if you wrote out your niche, the features/benefits of the app you're wanting then identify a budget for it and outsource it. The App Empire and 40 hour work week books pretty much say the same thing.

Of course finding a trusted outsource developer is another thing.

I'm sure other people can help you MadisonSEO in terms of pricing an app.

Not an app content is rather a utility I would say the design is the least amount of work needs a 5 -10% of the application. The operation if the application would be a 85% + performance between my phone and the website (3third party).

Not content to app it is, is a utility I would say the design is only a 10% the app. The (3third party) is 90% programming.

Sorry for not giving more details is for security reasons.

Many factors go into giving a quote for a mobile application. All depends on what the client wants. I'm sure each application would be very different, therefore have a very different price quote.
