Hi there I'm a hobbiest iPhone developer, published an app for myself and thankfully have helped 1 or 2 small companies publish apps; however when one reads stories about this app, or that app making 10M+ and would like to make an app in this area. The problem I'm having is I can't think of a good idea that isn't a rip-off or hasn't already been done. My test --------- The one goal I'd like to is easily roll out apps without investing a lot of time in content generation and focus on apps in the IM niche concept. With this in mind, I've just sent out a test app on a health food niche to Apple to see if: a. Apps with affiliate revenue work at all on mobile b. How easy a simple content app will be approved by Apple and be published. Its not anything amazing, but at least its a start. Thanks Summary: ----------- 1. I want to make my own apps and come up with ideas but am struggling with it as they all require a lot of time to build. Also, its hard finding good quality content to fill these apps with 2. I'm looking for good creative ideas on how to generate ideas for apps. I guess this is very similar to IM, pick a niche and try to dominate it? |

Do what's already been done just change it up and make it better. Naturally games are a big seller typically, especially if they're addictive but the development time can be extensive and is taking a gamble unless you already have a large following. You should search the app store for popular stuff and copy it, or combine many apps into one. Basically think about peoples problems and how your app can solve them, and start knockin them out.

@cashtree -- I agree. I am actually making a game at the moment, so that's a start; my idea is to hopefully get it out and put the sequel on IndieGoGo as this would really add credibility and brand awareness. I like the idea of combining ideas into one, that is something I could probably do. For a long time I've been trying to think of a way of shoe-horning WF/Internet Marketing content into mobile apps, perhaps as something people buy or consume but haven't found content or a model that could work. Thanks for the tips/ideas though. I guess this is the same thing for other apps, like wordpress plugins or things like that |

As being said, you can copy existing app ideas and make them better. You can also port successful online ideas (PC/web) and convert them into an app. 2 ideas of apps that don't exist yet (as far as I know): - App to check stats of my Aweber account (would love to use that!) - App like IFTT.com - I'd love to set alams (push messages) based on various online accounts I have. Have a look at iftt.com to understand what I mean Regarding creating an app the cheap way: I'd suggest creating it in HTML5 (you can even purchase good mobile HTML5 layouts so you're already halfway through), and then port them to apps using something like PhoneGap. Cheaper, and you can immediately launch your app to both iPhone and Android! Good luck Zardon! |

Here's what I'd try doing: 1. Go to Apple App Store 2. Find most popular apps in different categories (Top 25, 50 or 100) 3. Read reviews...focusing on negative/neutral reviews (for improvement suggestions) 4. Pick app I have most interest in with most upside potential based on above research) 5. Create new app that improves upon existing popular app 6. Rinse & repeat Hope that gives you some additional ideas. Best of luck! Anthony |

Hello there. Thanks for the follow-ups and ideas, I'm really grateful. I was a bit worried that I might not get a response, but its been useful and helpful! I found a website called AppEmpire with Chad Simple Steps to Turn Your App Idea Into Profit (No Affiliate link) I've watched some of the videos and got interested in thinking ideas, he even goes over some ideas for researching apps (no affiliate link) |

When this happens I usually outsource it or I know an Android developer who I will give the work to so I can concentrate on my vision/goals of doing iPhone apps. | |
