Purchasing a .mobi domain for hosting - who owns it? the customer or you?

I have been reading much about the options of hosting on sub-domains and charging a monthly hosting fee and I have also seen comments and posts suggesting to purchase .mobi domains so your in more control of the customer and the likelihood of them staying with your for hosting is greater, so whilst on this subject, do you purchase this in your customers name, or do you purchase this in your own name. I suppose what I am saying is , who actually owns the domain?

If your registering a new mobi domain for your customer I would suggest they own the domain as it will be a reflection of their business. You could then host it and charge a fee to host and to purchase for them.

There is no evidence that a mobi domain is better for a mobile site.. you could also use the sub domain as you mention m.yoursite. com as an example and still get the same result.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I was thinking of purchasing a .mobi domain was because some may object to the customerdomain.mydomain.com and also if I purchase them a .mobi domain for them I'm thinking the stick rate for the customer to stay with hosting their mobile site on the .mobi domain with me maybe be longer ?

I buy the .mobi domain and I am the registered owner. I then lease it to the customer, along with a mobile site. The paperwork says this when we get started. So, there are no surprises.

If they decide to leave, they then have 3 options. They can buy a new .mobi domain, they can buy the domain from me, or they can stay with me. Always good to have three options, right ?

My start up fees pay for the domain name and monthly fees more than do renewals.
