Is anyone building apps for local markets? It's been rumored that Apple is to be adding a frame for Local Apps in iTunes. I believe this is a huge market. While mobile websites seem to carry the present appeal, mobile apps still offer the user a better more enhanced experience. With Push Notifications and other app only features, apps just make more sense, but can the small business owner afford it? Price is what has undoubtedly snubbed the market for apps. Other companies are now starting to follow our trend of making apps easier and cheaper, without the compromise of quality. However, we can all agree the small business market has some catching up to do on the value of mobile. Recent studies have shown people search for local apps, but the supply is what we lack. I think the best way to introduce mobile marketing to small business is to offer a co-op program of some type. With a local coupon app, any good entrepreneur can make a decent revenue from getting businesses to slap a coupon on a local app. The need is there, the market is huge! I'm willing to do a live webinar on how to build a (HIGH QUALITY) local coupon app in 10 min without any code, if anyone is interested. |

App's are great for customer retention and on-going marketing but not for customer acquisition. My experiences are to build the relationship with other they need like basic Google+ Local verification & optimization of their listing. Once established, educate on other avenues such as App's & Mobile Friendly websites, SMS, regular website etc. The coupon offering is a great example to gain the initial trust, good idea! --Dennis |

Sup App29, Yes I too believe there is a huge market for this service. I haven't built any for the business in my area yet. Me and my partner are doing a case study on a local car company and are moving then into this direction over time.. (As dmbrennan said, gain initial trust). I also want to check out your webinar. |

Apps for local markets is a great idea. As someone mentioned, it helps people remember the site.

Hi I have been doing Apps for local businesses as well as others for over a year now and yes it is a hot market and works extremely well APP 29 I would be interested in your approach as well. I have a different take on customer acquisition that does work but you are right it can be not as effective.

This is a very interesting topic, I make most of income right now from apps (or app traffic), and also another good portion of profit from offering mobile applications to small businesses. Most people don't know where to start with the concept, or aren't sure how it could be profitable, but in my city (Cleveland, OH) all of the higher scale restaurants/bars/clubs are getting into the mobile app scene. Most of these businesses offer their apps through QR codes only so they know their push notification list is targeted local leads. HOT BUSINESS!!!! Also making good money on the android market, and recently the kindle market. Mobile apps will only pick up... before it slows down again. If you aren't near a big city, and there isn't a large smart phone populous, maybe it will be hard for this kind of business. If you have great talking skills and some charisma you should be able to bank good with a coupon app. |

The only problem with Apps for a local business is that they are not searchable on the Internet. Many sprout that there are millions of apps being downloaded however the same is true for them being deleted. Q |

Yes millions get downloaded and millions get deleted, but I could say the same thing for SMS or visiting a mobile website. The point is that is "WAS" downloaded, and you got brand recognition. I had the Home Depot app on my phone to get a coupon and then deleted it...so was it a total loss for Home Depot??? |
