Please help! I have a problem with a clients website which is redirecting to the mobile site on his Samsung Laptop N145 plus. The redirect is installed on wordpress and has been working fine. It's detecting the screen width <1023 My client says he was able to view the site fine on his laptop the other day but now it is redirecting him to the mobile site everytime. Additionally, the mobile site is not loading properly. It is not showing the header image on the home page and only showing the navigation bar. It works fine on my iPhone, Laptop & PC Hoping someone can help me quick! Thanks Justin |

Your seeing one of the pitfalls of using a javascript screen size detection redirect, javascript doesn't always detect the screen size properly - change it out for user agent based JavaScript, PHP or a .htaccess redirect depending on what type of website it is. HTH |
Sorry, I am too busy helping people to think of a cool signature! | |

It does not mean the script is not detecting properly. It means your friends laptop has a screen width of less than 1023 pixels and thus why they are being shown the mobile site.

I used to have a N145 Plus, and can confirm that the default screen resolution is 1024 x 600. Which means that either A) your friend changed the default screen resolution to something lower, or B) whatever browser he is using is not sending the correct screen information to your redirect script (I have seen this happen with certain versions of Android browsers, but never heard of it happening with regular "desktop" browsers like IE or Firefox). You could ask your friend whether or not he changed the screen resolution, then you would be able to pinpoint the issue (assuming, of course, that your redirect script was set up properly in the first place). But regardless... redirects based on screen size will work great for the majority of your site's visitors, but they are certainly not bulletproof. |
