well, it seems like they would rather turn business over to their own trusted web designer to build a mobile site, even though they dropped the ball and never suggested one, in the end nothing happens not even a mobile website from their designer.

How do you get around this major obstacle ?

You should always go into the conversation with a "pre-built" mobile site for the customer, especially one with their business name and site info" already created for them so they can "touch & feel" the site. That makes them want it even more, and if they don't accept your offer, then they feel like they just lost something.

With some of the mobile site builders out there today, it only takes a few minutes to create a "mobile site mock up" that you can show the business owner."

Also, show them your mobile site, or business card. Hopefully, your business card has a "QR Code" onn it somewhere. Have the business owner scan your business card qr code and watch how excited they get when they get directed to your mobile site. Make sure your mobile site has a killer design, with all the special features like "click to call" button, "coupon offer", and possibly a auto-responder email capture form, so you can explain the benefits of attracting and keeping customers.

Explain how they will actually "make money" by investing in a mobile site.

Good luck, and don't get discouraged. One sale to a local business owner can result in more sales when he tells his business partners about your business!

Im targeting doctors, plastic surgeons, as you know they are extremely busy, so I am sending them a personal type envelope, that looks like it should only be read by the doctor , then presenting my marketing pitch, showing how a web site versus mobile site looks like, I explain how they are loosing customers now, and what they need to do to get more customers. I cant explain too much or else they will loose interest.

If I hear back from them its a good sign , otherwise I may need to call them , but usually impossible to reach.

Does anyone have experience selling mobile sites to doctors ?

It's odd, so many people say mobile is the place to be, and others say how hard it is. Is it more of a "I can sell" and "I can't sell" scenario that makes the grass green for some and dead for others?

The goal is have something they can view with their name and information on it, this lets them instantly see something which can "trigger" buying behaviors.

Maybe their web designer is lazy (come on we all hear this about our clients last designer) so by showing them their potential mobile site right there, you have already put yourself ahead of their current web designer.

Don't even give the other guy a chance, follow through with every proposal/meeting like you already received a down payment and you are just waiting to deliver. Worst case scenario is they don't buy your services which they might not have done anyways.

Most of my business in the offline mobile world consisted of this..

My solution will make the phone ring more and make more people walk in.

That was enough to seal most deals if they were in a buying mood, but a few times I have to resort to something like..

"But these mobile sites are cutting edge, I can assure you that no one in the entire city has something as amazing as this. Its brand new!"

-Ladies response.. "Cutting edge huh? Wow that does sound nice, come show me.."

People are strange, smart, slow, obnoxious, genius, and everything else, this is why NO SET METHOD ever really works. Just focus on what their saying, pick up on the vibe and tell "THEM" what "THEY" need to hear. If the guy is saying I don't need a website because my other designer promised to do it in a few weeks, you promise to do it in a few days. Show them that earning their business is important, and in return for such a blessing you will send hordes of customers through their doors.

Thats why you need to think about offering extra value which the trusty CANT offer. that way you're not competing anymore, you are helping them buy something else where they get the mobile site as an extra.

So you can do that by what I explained on my thread or in the thread about the sms list. He offers them extra customers and a mobile website will be convenient if youre gonna do anything with SMS as a local business since they came in as a prospect by their phone, so likely they will use that for your offerings as well. That will be your FOOT in the DOOR and rules out the trusty.

Just think Global, but act local and copy your concept

Simply and politely ask them how much business they have won directly from their website, chances are they wont know ir it will be diddly squat, now why is that.........

Is there web designer JUST a web designer or are they marketing people that will join all the threads together to maximise the businesses potential , isnt that what you are and if so, do they realise that ?

The problem with so many people is they think they know best. Why are you sending out personalized letters? Has anyone been successful at doing this or is it something you came up with yourself?

The reason I ask is simple. The fastest way to succeed is to follow someone who has already been successful... and follow exactly what they did. I have thousands of students and the ones that have been most successful are those who took action and just did exactly what has already been proven to work over and over.

Get outside, go and visit the business owner with your phone. Show them what their current website looks like on a mobile device and how hard it is to navigate. Then show them the sample mobile website you have created for them and how it will help their customers.

Do this to 5 businesses and unless you stuff up big time, you will make a sale. It's not rocket science. You just need to do what WORKS. Action is great but not if you are doing the wrong things. Sending them a letter is not going to do much as you have already discovered.

1 out of 5 is very doable. I average $165 per mobile mock-up created. (I close 26% of my sales when I create a mockup)

Closing 1 in 5 face to face meetings is not overly optimistic at all. You should be getting those kind of numbers AT LEAST... hopefully more. If you can't close at least 1 in 5 then your presentation needs some reworking or you need to do a better job at finding the businesses you target.
