I am on the lookout for new ways to generate local leads for mobile web design to expand my current operation. Right now I am getting leads through social couponing sites. The businesses running promotions on these sites are very easy to get in touch with. What have you been doing to find leads for mobile web design? |

Social coupon sites are great, When you get those mail packets of adverts, they usually have a dozen or so businesses that have QR codes on their advert. These are hot leads because they are already spending ad dollars and their sending mobile traffic to a non-mobile page (95 times out of 100), also look for companies that advertise on yellowpages.com because they are accustomed to spending money to make money. You have it right, companies that are currently spending money on advertising are 10x more likely to spend money on your product/service compared to the shop that hasn't updated their web presence in 7 years. |

I use screencast videos to show them mock ups of sites I ave done for them. It's a numbers, game, but I have had quite a bit of success with the method.

I tried email marketing.. sent about 70 emails and got 1 person interested - that person eventually referred me to make an app for them which brang in thousands of dollars. But other than that, nothing. Face to face marketing works much better. 1 in 3-4 will agree to a sit down meeting to talk more about what you can do for them (if you go in their shop/resturant/etc with the right pitch). Then once you get the meeting, 1 in 3 seem to convert. Nick |

Face to face meetings 'absolutely' works better always.. Assuming you have a little charisma and decent speaking skills. Best case scenario is that you can meetup with a business owner themselves, as intrusive as it sounds I've actually had more success just walking into establishments than e-mailing or cold calling. |

Have you thought about good old fashioned email marketing? There is a "contact form" bot for $50 out there. You basically add some footprints and it finds sites with contact forms and mails them. Its almost 100% inbox rate. All you need is some decent footprints to find business sites. Things like: "vat number" "vat registered" "company number" "company no:" And so on... |

I do mostly cold calling and explain how that is reducing the costs for them so they dont even wanne sit down face to face But I do it with an edge so I get my foot firm between the door and they let me do the mobile site so they can put it to good (SEO) use, something no other can do for them. That means extra clients for them which they just cant resist LOL |

We do in-person workshops which always make sales for us. We do very low pressure, we don't even pitch at the end. We just leave a bunch of biz cards and pamphlets and say "We're here to help if you need us." And they call us eventually. We also follow up with each participant as well, of course!

I scrape Google. It is a numbers game, but I have had success with it. I go for high ticket clients as a foot in the door and then I upsell. It takes work, but it does work. Everyone should be using screencasts with prospecting/closing clients. It helps out a lot! |

70 emails is nothing, i sent out 5000 emails and i get about 15 clients that would like to see a free mock-up site and of those 15 i sell about 8/9 of them and then i upsell them my leads service. I used to do postcards, but the way i do it now is i use the method from mobifunnel and i tweaked it for my own needs, like i sad, i offer them a free mock-up, the landingpage also shows them how their site looks in a iphone. Works great but you have to do some serious mailing, 70 emails is nothing more then a drop of water in a big ocean

For getting leads for my mobile application development I usually spends a lot of time over Linkedin and Sales Fore and contacts to people through mails.

But now I know why I didn't find it on my bookmarks...I didn't bookmark it because of 2 reasons: 1. There is NO shortcode for the Netherlands 2. Messages also have the latest tweet in them and therefor the link to twitter. So it cant be used for offering to a local business as SMS marketing services  Have to find something else to to let people sign in using a shortcode... But thanks the same

Rich, I like this idea of offering the mobile site for free if they agree to pay $97/mo for a minimum of one year. Hmmm... thank you for this. Next time I have someone humming and hawing over price I will present this to them as an option! Now I just need to find 100 clients willing to do this |

Its something like I do, but the other way around. They get a free listing with their mobile site until the end of the year and then 50% off from the listing fee

And what I don't like about the Twitter solution is that you don't get the data, its known that its thru Twitter and it costs the receiver money to receive the SMS. Here people can get a MOBILE WEBSITE for free (simple CMS based version) and upgrade to full for € 4,- a month. So upsell the website...nahhhh A custom mobile site is something they want for it doesn't cost them the time to put the content and it will look better next to their normal website. I can now already offer SMS marketing and do all the broadcasting for them (saves them time) and charge a flat fee of 10 cents and make money on every SMS. The more I get them involved with the SMS marketing by doing coupons and events broadcasting the more they will use it without feeling that I'm ripping them off. If they would send SMS from their mobile themself it will cost them double. So they feel like they have the best deal in town and a services not to many have and use yet. So in short, offering SMS for free and upsell to a 97 plan wont work here in the Netherlands. I do concept research and development and then use agents to service the concepts. So I do try everything out (building, developing and market/sell) myself first to finetune the concept. Unless it gets to techy, then I let R&D do it and I just experience the user (agents) experience in marketing sence.
