I would like to create a mobile website for a restaurant however the owner would like for her logo to be saved on her homescreen like an app. Is their a way to replace the standard android bookmark logo with a custom logo/image? Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

Add this line to the head section of your page: <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="images/apple-touch-icon.png" /> Create your icon image (57 x 57), save it as 'apple-touch-icon.png' and upload it into the 'images' folder. Both Apple and Androids will use that icon. |

Thanks Will, I was looking on how to do this too. Quick question: Do I need to add the code to each page, or just the homepage?

Well I would think all of your pages but it depends on which page you ask them to bookmark your site. I'm not sure if the devices would then look for that code on your homepage or not. That's something you will need to test yourself.

Thanks Will. As a newbie, I really admire your work and have bought many of your WSO offerings. I'm building and selling mobile sites now with your templates and videos. Building logos too. But I have major snag I'm hoping you can help with (not sure if I should ask in this thread but it is app related.) I'm just frustrated trying to get an answer. Here is the post I just place in the forum: I have gotten so many great tools for mobile and local/offline marketing. Thanks WillR. Thanks SqueezeMobi. Thanks all of you. I've learned tons about building and marketing mobile websites and apps. But nobody has made it clear how your client gets the app downloaded into his customer's cell phone once he has bought your work or service. I haven't found any WSO or reference that explains that part of it. OK, my client wants the app, buys the app. Now what does he do? What are the steps to load it into phones. How does he send a push notice to those phones. Can some please help here? Thanks. Hope this helps someone else too. |

Thanks Will, I think that the code is only needed on the page you're trying to bookmark, but you right I'll test it myself.

If it's an App, before you can download it you have to submit it to the Android and Apple stores. Then once there and live, your clients and his clients can start downloading it. There is a way to download Android apps to your phone without going thru the Play Store, but there's no way you can do that with an iOS App.

I might be misunderstanding your question but I use WillR's WSOs ("My Mobile Business" and "Little Red Snapper") to build the mobile sites with the owner's own logos in place. It works great and everyone says my product is the best.

OK Well all I'm really looking to do is provide my clients with a simple, direct way to get their app on their customer's phone without having to go through 3rd party or extra steps. So how does he do this for android. Can it be set up to do with something simple like just scanning a QR code or something like that? I know a qr code can bring their phone to the web page. Perhaps I'm just being a newbie.

Everyone is a newbie at something at some point Anyway, again I'm just referring to Apps and not the so-called webapps. To install an App on an Android phone without going thru the marketplace you have to allow installation of "unknown sources" in your phone settings: Settings->Applications->Unknown sources->tick the box This will allow you to install an application on your phone directly. However I can only imagine this making sense to "DEMO" your app to your client only. As far as I know you CAN'T do this with an iOS app. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the kind words. 1. If you have any specific questions about my product or anyone elses then make sure you post them in the customer forums or email the person directly. Don't place them in this forum since it's not the place for customer support. 2. My product that you mentioned is for creating mobile websites. I think you are getting confused here. A mobile website is NOT an app. It is a alternate version of your website made to suit mobile devices. When someone comes along to your standard website, if they are on a mobile phone they are detected and automatically sent to the mobile website. If you want advice on apps then I can't help you since I don't have much experience with apps.
