Help with mobile websites
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Guys I have some questions for you:
1- How much could cost a mobile website? For how much should I sell them?
2- I'm already a "normal-website" maker and I know alot of web programming languages(such as html, css, javascript, jquery, php, sql, etc). Is it hard to learn about making website for mobile?
3- How do you check if your website is compatible with the major part of telephones?
4- Do you use any particular software to make mobile sites?
5- Do you usually contact people via telephone or you meet them in real life?
Thanks in advance for the replies (sorry for my bad english)

I'm planning to offer four stages of pricing.

For a very basic website like WillR's templates I'm selling the design for $200 OR giving the design as a freebie and charging $20 a month for hosting.

For a nicer custom design I'm pricing between $400 and $600 for the design.

There are large/complex mobile sites that I could see charging $1K or even $2K for, but I'm not after that market yet.

2. You want the HTML5Mobile Boilerplate Mobile Boilerplate

3. Using a framework that is already crossbrowser validated, such as the above, helps a lot. That package also comes to a list of links to various phone emulators that you can test your site in.

5. I'm just getting started with selling mobile sites and so I'm trying out all different types of sales techniques.

For testing purposes at a minimum i would recommend you have at least an newer android or iphone4... if need be you could always use an ipod touch that does not need a contract. You can usually use most smartphones that have wifi connection without a contract thats how our test rig is setup as follows:

iphone3g - wifi only
iphone4s - contract
itouch - wifi
android samsung captivate I - wifi
android samsung captivate II - contract
blackberry curve - wifi
generic old school flip phone - pay as you go

You can use emulators and simulators but they will only get you so far, you really cant beat "real world testing" - as an alternative if you cant access these type of devices take a look at perfectomobile.com for online testing with real devices.

What you have to remember is if you use an emulator or any device with a wifi connection it will be typically be a much faster connection than what the average phone user will get on their phone - meaning if your site is loading relatively slow on your desktop connection... its likely to be even slower on a mobile device (unless your mobile user has an 4G LTE connection)

Sorry, I am too busy helping people to think of a cool signature!
