Does it cost anything to put an app on Google play? Also, what are push notifications that people are talking about?

I'm also curious about push notifications. It seems that this could potentially be more valuable then SMS services. I think selling a custom app to a business that allows them to display info as well as alert app users when the content/coupons are updated would be very valuable. |

You can promote it through social media like facebook. If you want to promote it through google play, you have to work with mobile technology company with OS which supports google play like samsung. |

In terms of ROI, an SMS campaign is going to be a lot more beneficial. They are much cheaper and faster to setup and they have a better deliverability rate than push notifications.

For uploading an app over Play Store there are some guidelines that you must follow if your app is free. And if your app is paid then you have to pay some amount as a commission to Google.

Push notifications are a short message that are sent directly to the notification tray of the smart phone. Companies like AirPush have caused a lot of smart phone users to disable 'AirPush' notifications, which you can do by installing their 'disable notifications' app. This concept holds true for every app, so if you promote an application with a QR code on a banner; they will download the application and it will have the default 'notifications enabled' feature. In theory, when someone goes to download an application based on the pretense of saving money, they aren't concerned with being spammed by a business they frequent. This holds even more true when adding it to a niche business model like night clubs or fancy restaurants. You can actually use SMS with mobile apps too, so whatever you prefer the most, you can use. Mobile Apps are a lot like Mobile Sites, they can both do many of the same things. Both can be a great option, it can be a matter of preference, or offer both! If you already have a mobile site, just plug it into an app as a tab and then add app specific stuff to it. Win-win. There is a one time fee of $25 to upload apps to the Google Play market, you earn a 70% commission on paid apps. Cheers, Chris
