Having a main website whilst selling mobile websites?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hey warriors,

I plan to start selling mobile websites to businesses and I was wondering if having like a business web page so to speak is a good idea? (i.e leaving the link back to my website in their footer?) note: I don't have a business i'm just a guy trying to make some money on the side but is it worth coming up with a webpage to sell my services? Or not!

What are your thoughts Warriors!

Edit: Also I wouldn't be doing any SEO or anything to get my website to page 1 so people wouldn't find me without exact match searching..

Think of it this way, if you are going to sell mobile websites to businesses... then you'll have a business. Whether you are just reselling another service or not is irrelevant, you are still providing a service to your client.

If you want to be able to point them somewhere to see examples or just have some general credibility, then sure, make a website. If you want to side step the issue if someone asks about your own site then don't make one. I know lots of people say they started without any website of their own, but even my first client asked me for my site and a portfolio, so I guess it depends on who you run into.

You are selling mobile websites then might as well have one..you can even use this to your advantage. Place some of your portfolios and like what Danielm said it will add to your credebility. Your own website is your bussiness sign... you know what they say, "a business with no sign is a sign of no business"

It certainly can't hurt things but what's important in the early stages of business is spending time only on those things that are going to make a big difference.

My best advice to you is to get out and hit the streets. If you meet with business owners one on one then they will get to know you and see you as a real person and any questions or examples they want to see can be given right on the spot. You could waste a lot of time building a website but it's not necessarily going to make you any sales... but pounding the pavement will.

It's definitely something you will want to add later but what I am saying is, it's not vital. I have seen many people fail at this because they took so long in the preparation of everything. My most successful members have been those who just took action and hit the pavement.

I doubt I'd ever buy a website from an individual or company who
didn't have one of their own. Seriously... if you're going to walk into
my place of business and talk to me about how a website will improve
my bottom line I'm going to think your full of BS if you don't have one.

Same goes for a mobile site... if you want me to believe a mobile site
is good for my business you better be able to show me yours.

If you knew what I know you'd be doing what I do...

You can't just make a statement like that because it's simple untrue. I know PLENTY of people who have sold tons of offline services without ever having their own website. I also know plenty of people who have nice and flashy looking websites but have sold none or very few offline services. There is no direct correlation between the two.

I rather base my decisions on real world experience rather than here say... and I suggest others do.

if your selling mobile websites it may be better to have your own one, even if it is just so much as a business card, a place for them too check you out, i think these days even if anyone can own one people feel more comfortable buying or doing business with someone who they can refer to

Will, that's not only true for mobile marketing. This is the mindset an entrepreneur has to adopt everytime. People think that building a website qualifies them to be great sellers, but then they hit the real world and they realize that they don't have the right skills to sell the product or service.

And now? They have a website that nobody will ever visit..

Do you agree?

OK... I'll play.

You're out selling mobile websites and you stop into my
place of business just to chat and establish some rapport
with the hope of setting an appointment to give me a full
presentation. Remember... you don't have a website, let
alone a mobile site.

The conversation comes around to mobile websites and how
much benefit my business can derive by having one... you go
on to give me a few bullet points to reinforce your assertion.

I say... that makes sense. How has it worked for your business?

Can I take a look at your site?

And you respond how....

If you knew what I know you'd be doing what I do...

I think it's a matter of credibility. You and I are both business
owners and here you are standing in my business telling me what
I should do to increase my bottom line... but you aren't doing
it for your own business.

You will instantly lose credibility with me... and most business owners.

I appreciate all the rah rah... go get 'em tiger... positive attitude but
anyone who doesn't think their credibility will suffer if they try to advise
someone to do something to improve business that they aren't doing to
improve their own business just hasn't thought it through completely.

If you knew what I know you'd be doing what I do...

I'll play too!

I agree with Tsnyder. It does add credibility. It's also great for taking payments. I have bought several mobile marketing products lately, and they all compliment each other, but I know that I need a website. A business owner may want to make a purchase at 2AM if for some reason he or she can't sleep. They may see another feature that they like. They may see something someone else has and want it too.

I am new to mobile marketing, but I love it, since I am a proud owner of a smart phone. I am in the idea phase for my website. I have a domain and hosting already. Just need to build a website to display my mobile website and app building services. Does anyone have any ideas of how to make this proccess simple?

WillR makes a good point , although it does not seem logical at first.

People who buy may not have time to visit your website, and if you establish good credibility
then customers take that on face value. You would think that they would look at your website, but many are not that savvy or will even think about it.

but then again what do I know, I have yet to sell anything, lol

Hey guys, stop saying ridiculous thing when you've never experienced these.
I did it!

I own several web design companies around the world and I even have some that don't have any website (domain name of business is even free to reg) I can tell you he is doing as good as the one with a website.

My employee goes visit business owners with a brochure with everything it needed in order to sell a web design. No need to demo on a mobile phone, computer laptop or whatsoever.
Don't waste booting a PC, get internet connection... We do the old good way: Brochure

I can tell you it's powerful and just like you I don't understand why business owners are more interested looking at this rather than your laptop showing your website...

Seriously, if you are creating mobile websites for clients, it shouldn't take more than a night to make yourself a quick Wordpress site. If you think it's going to take any longer then outsource it or don't worry about it.

Anything that does not help with traffic/leads and conversions is a good guide to use.
So if a website is just brochure-ware that nobody will hardly look at, then forget it, but if the website is an integral part of your sales funnel then it is obviously essential.

Here,, and don't all you experts get all huffy and puffy.
Go to the WSO area, and search Mobile Websites. There you'l find this:

SMS MARKETING BUSINESS IN A BOX + CUSTOM MOBILE WEBSITES, CUSTOM FAN PAGES & CUSTOM TWITTER PAGES ( 1 2)
rkaiser5

It cost $9.99 a month and you get a really nice website. Shoot,, everyone go check it out. The site has a lot of cool stuff.

And no,,, I'm not affiliated with this in any way
It's just a really simple way to get that PRO look,, if that's what YOU want.
