Admob: Can you simply transfer ad earnings (as a publisher) to fund ads (as an advertiser)?

It seems like something the should be simple enough and, indeed, I have found a number of references to it around the web, and even in Google's own documentation (albeit linking to a 404 page :rolleyes

However, it doesn't seem to be that simple in practice... or even possible.

Perhaps it was possible once, but isn't now?

Does anyone know?
