It is valuable if it is well planned and well executed. By this I mean you need to know what message to send to who and at what time. That would require some degree of statistcs and Data mining. You could contact you service providers to get the cost of PRS services, or buy software that will enable you to send the messages from your computer.

Text message marketing is inexpensive and offers great ROI. The key is to get as many customers and prospects to opt-in to your database. The beauty of the opt-in is that these are highly qualified customers that WANT to receive your promotional messages.

Subway sends all of its mobile coupons at 11:30 am so that consumers are reached at the most ideal time: just before lunch. That's targeting that other mediums can't offer.

You can check out costs here.

I would love to experiment with this, the key like concept, like someone mentioned, is having them opt in. In order for this to work you'd have to be delivering some top notch content/information, so much that people would be happy to get a text from.

The best thing is to find the right angle, be entertaining, and deliver high value - otherwise this can backfire. I"m ready to start giving in a try.

I stopped at a Qdoba today while traveling and a display at the front of the order line was this message:

Text "Q" to 50500 and get free chips and queso sauce"

so while waiting in line I did just that, got the message back on my phone, and got my free stuff when checking out. Within 2 minutes I sent the text, got the auto reply, and showed my text to the checkout lady. Now they have another subscriber.

This is SO easy for businesses if they just try it. The trick is to get the business owner to understand how building an SMS list can be so powerful to their business.

I should add that Bank of America is working with mobile texts as they quite often send me texts about free tickets to a local museum. They are quite sneaky. If I find just the right thing to give away I might give it a try.

Hi Dennis,

Text message marketing is quickly becoming the most dynamic and powerful medium to communicate directly with consumers. It offers access to users in a way no other technology has ever before. Businesses who utilize correctly can find their best customers while learning specific buying motivations. At the same time they can maximize and fine tune their ROI from their traditional advertising channels. It's a very powerful way to market if you know what you're doing.

Good Luck

Well so far this thread is full of a hole load of hot air.

It's very hard to give any meaningful answers when the OP hasn't even asked an actual question. I hate to say it but these types of threads are useless.

My clients (the one who actually use it to its full potential) love it! They are seeing higher redeem rates than traditional forms of marketing.

And they can send any promotion at any time of the day to get those doors open!

It's really inexpensive way to market and reach all of your customers.
