hey,

I came here looking for something else and saw this thread. Your site is pretty decent, I can see it's still in dev, since there is a Lorem ipsum page as well and couple links don't work. Anyways I'm pretty sure that's not an issue.

However, I see a major problem. You haven't used this tag at all.

content="width=device-width"

Your users would be varied, different mobiles, tabs, etc....you don't want the look to get distorted.

Head to jqmgallery . You cannot go wrong with jquery mobile.

Your mobile site looks really good on my Samsung Galaxy II. You did a great job. Which software did you use?

Graphics present very nicely I thought. Not sure why the site jumps back up to the header graphic when a tab is activated, but it did it consistently for me (viewed on Iphone). I am not a big fan of footer ads, I think it distracts from the message, especially on a small mobile device screen, but that's personal preference of course.

I might suggest some inclusion of a video channel, especially since it's a Real Estate site. Offer to make the client up some video's of their listings to include.

Great work.

It looks nice but it's probably a little too image heavy. It's over 70kb for the homepage which although isn't too bad, you could still probably aim to get that a lot lower. Remember the homepage is generally the first page someone visits. If that page takes too long to load then they will go off elsewhere and the rest of the site won't matter. Always try and make a point of having your homepage nice and simple and fast loading.

Hi WillR,
thanks for the review. Agree with what you mentioned, homepage is the first look when user visit the website. Will try to reduce the file size.

Kelvin, it still looks nice and it's great to see you actually building mobile sites.

If you can get the homepage size down a little though it will be an added bonus to your client and their customers.

But the rest of the site looks nice.

Hey Kelvin
Your site is quite nice, the images are aligned nicely. But the home page is on /property URL while the yourdomain.com shows index of/ error.
Generally people enters domainname.com URL for accessing a website, not the URL of internal page. Check it out, rest you have done a nice work.

The quotes need a little work. A few say "He help me..." or "Michael help me...", they should read "He helped me..." and "Michael helped me..."

Kelvin - watch your spelling mistakes. The word "company" in the navigation bar is misspelled. Also add some color to the text on the titles - that will pop it out.

Looks real great well done. I do disagree about the size of your file. Loads real quick for me and people do like images. Technology is moving so fast i really don't see an issue with file size, of course don't go mad with the size.

I'm curious...do you plan to sell this site? or is it just for your portfolio?

Because you need to keep in mind that the large majority of people don't have super fast and unlimited mobile connections.

Checking out a site on a nice fast wifi connection is very different to the person in the middle of town trying to access it on a very weak connection whilst driving along in their car.

... and they are your customers so they are the people you should be building for.

You really can't beat testing on a real device - however that's not always possible so check these out...

Free Mobile Performance Testing with Akamai's Mobitest

Perfectomobil.com

Akamai says your getting speeds of around 2 seconds which is good in my books - always aim for 2 to 4 seconds or lower and you will be on the right path performance wise.

In your specific situation image heavy sites may be acceptable but WillR's point is valid.

With other mobile sites in different circumstances many customers could be on low bandwidth connections and images, which may look pretty, can slow down the page load which can be detrimental.

Spot on.

What I tend to find with a lot of mobile design is people put the LOOKS of the site ahead of the USER-EXPERIENCE.

Think about it.

If you are walking along trying to load a mobile website on your phone so you can order some Chinese take-out from your favorite Chinese restaurant, what are you going to be more interested in? Some flashy looking graphics that take forever to load or a nice plain and clean looking site that jumps right up on your screen super-fast.

That's not really a serious question because we all know the answer.

Mobile is NOT about massaging the ego of the person who designed the mobile website. It is about creating a streamline and fast loading site that gives your customers quick and easy access to all important information they need whilst on the move. With mobile, simple is better.

It takes awhile for my iphone 3gs to load the homepage. Most probably due to the image slider at the top of your mobile site.

I personally don't recommend to have image slider on mobile site because it is just for cosmetic only and not necessary for a mobile website which is should be small size, fast loading page and easy navigation.

Anyway, congrats on your first mobile website development. I wish you good luck and all the best.

We are singing the same tune.

If you look at the comScore reports for smartphone use you see the main activities people are using their devices for
74.8% - Sent text message to another phone
51.1% - Used downloaded apps
49.8% - Used browser
36.7% - Accessed social networking site or blog
33.5% - Played Games
27.0% - Listened to music on mobile phone

The main themes from the above are :-
- entertainment = apps, games, music, videos
- communication = text, social networks
- search, maps and facts = browser

The websites we publish are for the provision of facts - a website accessed over the air is never going to compete with apps, games and videos for entertainment so it needs to focus on quick access to the facts and ability to purchase / order if relevant. Downplaying the images does not mean that it cannot give a professional impression that encourages the customer to visit again.

It took slightly longer than I would've liked it for my android smartphone to pull it up. Not too bad, but still a good idea to make it load faster. I would advise against the use of a slider for a mobile site: 1) because it takes longer to load; 2) after clicking on each tab, it goes back to the first picture in the slider (looks like something is amiss when that happens).

Testimonial should be "testimonials" right?

It is always a good web design practice to use images as little as possible for the layout. I am not saying don't use any images for the layout, but use them as little as possible.

For example, you can get rid of large images that you are using for the navigation buttons and use "text + tiny background image (1px-width) + some CSS". In some cases, you may not get the exact same effect but I would always prefer this if it will save me even a fraction of a second of the loading time.

One more thing. You can use Google Maps API for your map if you want. It creates interactive maps, better for the users. You can check it here:

Looks good, but as others mentioned too heavy in graphics and load time will suffer. You CS3 mobile validation to get above 90%.

Your site looks quite good. Content loads to my Samsung Galaxy 2 ok but images take a little bit longer. I think it's a pretty good site for a first one anyway. Well done.

Looks good on my Samsung Galaxy S2, though the images do look a bit low resolution. I would also place the back button at the bottom of the pages instead of the top.

Nice looking site, the only thing that I would want changed, if I were a client; is a header bar above the image, and fully defined buttons with greater separation between them (they seem to merge into each other).

Looks great on my Galaxy S3. did you design it yourself or use a template?

I think everybody pretty much covered everything. I think you did a good job, my main critique is the images are soft/low res. If your working from original image files, downsize for the web and sharpen for the web, this will make a big difference in the viewing.

Congratulations on taking action : )

Your site sure looks good, yet I think you got some good advice about the slider.
Check out your slide #4 for spelling error - it says 'thsi' instead of 'this'.

Also as a portfolio it will be probably wise to finish building all the pages and if
you choose to keep the slider it may be better to keep it only on the home page
rather than on every page.
