Mobile friendly site or Mobile friendly theme?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Nowadays so many people browse internet via smartphones..... SO, the question araised about my blogs to be re-designed to best suit the mobile platform.

My question is:
Does I need a Mobile friendly site or Mobile friendly theme?

I mean, changing only theme (with a mobile compatible one) is enough for best view in mobile screens?

If you are running a well established blog then I would probably suggest the most sensible option being a responsive theme that will change to suit all devices. It's not going to be as streamline as a standalone mobile site would be but when you have a lot of content and the like, more often than not it's going to be the more sensible option.

Redesigning your blog for mobile platform is good but I will suggest you to have a mobile friendly responsive theme for your blog. Yes, changing the theme will do the work for you.

If your using Wordpress then i suggest you get WP Touch Pro.

Smartphones generate more traffic these days than PC or MAC users.

if its a WordPress blog then you would probably be better off with something like WPTouch...

Responsive themes are considered mobile ready but are FAR from being mobile optimized.

Depends what your website goal is - if its not a WordPress Blog but more of an actual website then WPtouch really isn't designed to be used on a non brick and mortar business website... it seems to me to have been specifically design to mobilize the blog functionality of wordpress.

It doesn't have an out of the box solution for things such as click to call buttons, mobile friendly feedback forms, auto responder integration, mobile google maps, i can go on...

However it does use an adaptive approach in that it renders different html depending on the user agent which i give a big thumbs up too... this is a much better approach over responsive design and if done properly can really give the end user a great mobile experience.

@OP it sounds like your using Wordpress for more blog functionality - know your options ie responsive theme, mobile optimized theme, standalone mobile site, adaptive design, plugins, etc understand the pros and cons - WordPress does have an number of tools that will help you mobilize your site- whichever you choose just make sure you test and test again and see for yourself what is the best end user mobile experience.

Sorry, I am too busy helping people to think of a cool signature!

Well my expert advise for you is that having or building a mobile friendly theme is best for your mobile blog or website.

I would rather go for a change in the theme to suit most of the smartphones. This will make your blog site more compatible with the mobile phones of this modern era and will also help you get more readers in the mean while.
