I have been reading up on mobile marketing and sms lately. I have sent traffic from my own newsletter in the past and have gotten mobile signups that way. I just wanted to know what kind of traffic methods have any of you all used to get new mobile optins?

If you're talking about ONLY mobile traffic, mobile PPC is the only reliable source that I can think of. Have you checked out Google Keyword Tool recently? It now gives you traffic estimates for keywords on mobile devices. Facebook & Twitter advertising can be targeted mobile only, but that option isn't available to the average advertiser just yet. Probably by the end of the year. I haven't had much luck with mobile display advertising, but it could be worth a try. All other sources (SEO, Social Media, email etc.) usually deliver a combination of mobile and desktop traffic to a link. It can't really be differentiated, so your best bet is to have a landing page that redirects to a mobile version or (less preferably) a landing page with responsive design. |

I second the vote for mobile PPC. I think that most of the clicks from mobile display advertising is accidental. Somebody is using a display ad supported app and they accidentally touch the top or bottom of the screen where the ad is showing while handling the phone. |

You can still use the normal techniques used for normal sites for mobile traffic source. Press releases, add links and images to your website, forums posting and participating in topics related to your field.

You can create a simple mobile Website (a Mobile Landing page) and use Pay pay click service to drive target traffic to that page. Don't forget that the mobile Website database is less competitive than standard websites. So you can get a .mobi with a good domain, do some SEO and you should be able to get some free traffic. |
