Problem with mobile website tester
Share on:

Hi,

I normally use Quentin's Mobile Website Tester

http://businessmobilewebsite.com/tester/

However, I have now a problem with that emulator:

Yesterday I entered in the field Enter your mobile website URL

the URL

never stop the beat! | percussion, drums, drumcircles [percussion+m]

and the tester now jumps directly to that website instead of displaying it in the mobile emulator. It doesn't even give me time to edit the URL in the field.

So I am stuck and can't use that emulator any more.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Dan Hower

That's not a real emulator... it's simply an iframe in the shape of a mobile phone. And the reason that site opened up in a new tab/page is likely because there is a "framebreaker" somewhere in that site's source code (a lot of sites have this, because some site owners don't want their site "framed").

Try clearing your browser's cookies / cache, and that should solve the issue with the automatic redirection.

Or better yet, use something like this.

I suggest using a desktop based tool for testing for obvious reasons. I use the one Brandon mentioned and also the following ones:

Electric Plum - Power for the Mobile Web
Opera Mobile Emulator

Opera's mobile emulator is a really nice one that has many mobile devices and screen sizes.

I use different ones for different purposes.
1. To see if a business has a mobile site i use howtogomo.com since it will detect and redirect to a mobile version if there is one.

2. To test a mobile site I use mobilephoneemulator.com as it allows me to click on all the buttons - navigations - etc - as if it was a real phone.

Thanks all, understand.

Especially Brandon, with the frame breakers.

Cheers
