Although there is much talk of what Smartphone is best and has most sales when developing sites and Apps you want to go where the majority is first. Interesting statistics give some insights what platform to look at first and maybe the future... Mobile Traffic Statistics Comparison 2013http://www.mocialsedia.com/mobile-tr...mparison-2013/ What device gets your vote? |

Id personally say it depends on the purpose that you are building them for, if its to help people with reference or productivity apps then go for native app (ios, android first) but if you are selling to businesses then your best going for HTML5 based apps as lets be honest most people are searching the web over app store when it comes to local businesses

Varies wildly depending upon where you are in the world, and what your site is about. It also depends on whether you're developing an app, or developing a mobile site. Mobile sites are easier to cater for multiple devices - through browser agent redirection. Apps you're obviously locked down to a device, but then you get the benefit of potentially being able to use more of the devices features. As mobilemarketingmogul said, HTML5 can be a good choice, as that combines a bit of the best of both worlds - the downside is that older devices would have to be able to use other versions of HTML - thereby complicating the situation. Then it comes down to your question - which devices specifically are you targetting, and find the most apprepriate platform to deliver. In terms of which brands - they're all pretty similar now - Android, Apple, Windows all have app stored, and similar functionality. One thing I would say about the Apple devices is they often appear to lag behind the trend in hardware specs a little. If your app doesn't require more power, then there's a huge market out there for you to go at. Let's face it though, they're all pretty big markets for each of the major players. |

So personally I'd be doing research to find the opportunities regardless of platform. It's a bit like saying....MAC or PC ?

Android has recently over taken Apple in total sales. Personally I think you should be concentrating on Apple and Android. They are the biggest markets at the moment and you can't afford to just ignore one or the other. |

iOS and Android are the "go to" first mobile platforms that come to my mind but I would recommend looking into your website's analytic and see what types of mobile devices are generating the mobile traffic. That will help solidify any suggestions that you may receive here.

It's a good opinion to check the website analytics, but whether you choose just Android or just iOS, you will loose business. Except when the majority is about 80%. But I think the linked article is not a good comparison if we are talking about apps. You shouldn't decide that which platform do you want to develope an app for based on website statistics, because one of the main features of an app is that it works offline too.

I always prefer Apple. As i have good experience for that, and i never want to turn on any other device.

It is not about whether you prefer an Apple phone or an Android phone personally, it's about what will make you money. I do not like chinese food, but I am not going to avoid doing business with chinese restaurants, if there is money in it! Most of the businesses that started out with only Apple app, have now had to take off the blinkers and get an android app. So I think it is important to be involved in both markets. Just my 2 pence |
