Anyone else using Twilio and the SMS Hotbox Software WSO?
Share on:

I've spent the entire evening dealing with trying to do simple things like set this up, and it is driving me up a wall. If I had hair, I'd pull it out. I bought the SMS Hotbox WSO from Mark Helton on here, and now it is no longer coming up anywhere on the site. I looked for it to see if anyone else was having issues to get some feedback.

Anyway, I'm using my own cell phone to do testing. The first problem I had was that Twilio's default is to respond themselves to things like someone texting "stop", and they were essentially overriding the software from the WSO that I bought. I contacted Twilio, and they turned their defaults off and away I went, or so I thought.

Apparently in the process of trying this my own cell number was blacklisted because I texted stop and Twilio's default wouldn't release my number. So, they had to whitelist it. But then they apparently forgot to turn their defaults back off, and now I sit here with both my cell phone and my wife's blacklisted from my own test campaigns.

I also have two phone numbers through Twilio now, because the first always showed up as "in use" on the WSO software, and I had to get a second to free one up. But then I just noticed that the second number is now locking on the software.

Anyone else buy this WSO? I can't figure out if Twilio is the issue or the software. The fact that Mark Helton's WSO seems to be nowhere to be found, and although somewhere I read that it was on Clickbank (it isn't currently), it seems to have disappeared. If this software is junk, I'd sure like to know before wasting even more of my time and money. I'm so glad that I tested all of this out before advertising my services. What a nightmare that would have been. This has been bad enough.

Can't offer any help with the software, which does seem to have disappeared. I would suggest that you use openvbx, you should be able to accomplish the same thing.

I cannot speak for the software, but I did have a conversation with Twilio a while back about how they need to simplify the documentation and provide better tools to use the interface, they agreed and said that they were working on a lot of new tools and better documentation, but to date I think they are about the same as before.

The SMS market is a really good one, lots of clients want it, but few want to spend the time needed to setup a working system.

I know there are a few WSOs that use Twilio but like you I find the setup frustrating.

Well I have to say that Twilio has been very responsive, while Mark Helton has disappeared. That is very disappointing, though not surprising from many of the WSO's that I've purchased here. I've got another plugin that I bought before Mark's to try. If I can figure it out, I'll report back.

I thought about trying the Wrecking Ball SMS program, but the site has been down for some sort of maintenance when I went there, which made me leery. Frankly I've been burned enough on here that I'm skeptical of most people. I've heard good things about Wrecking Ball, but from other WSO sellers, and since many of them are busy whoring out their lists and products, it is hard to know who to trust. There are some pricey alternative options that I'll look at if I can't get my other plugin working.

I'd recommend SMS Wordpress. It's still fully supported. I just talk to them the other day.

I agree. I've been using Openvbx for all sorts of different sms and voice apps for almost 2 years. Most all of the WSOs that come out using Twilio can be duplicated using Openvbx. And you can't beat the price. Its free.

I've heard of Twilo but I would be concerned about short codes. Most companies get shut down because major phone retailers don't like the spamming that is being done by companies through SMS. I'm still doing my research out there for a quality SMS platform.

I have this one too. Use it with no problems. Recommend it. Other than the fact that my lists (for my clients) collectively got so big I needed to buy a dedicated server (because things got top heavy), been going along without any problems.

I also have Mark Helton's HOTBOX and if you are on his email list just respond back and he is pretty quick about getting back to you. I am trying to put together a support group of my own for people who want to use the hotbox system as a texting/calling contest using openvbx. Anyone interested let me know and we can set up a Google Hangout Section. We will earn money together in our own local market and motivate each other. PM me back if interested.
