SMS for Facebook
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

By accident I called on a prospect who ran a small ad in a local newspaper and he had inserted the "facebook icon" in his ad with the text "find us on facebook". I showed him a QR code I created that he could insert into his ad and people could scan the code and be taken to his FB page. So far so good, EXCEPT this guy didn't have a smart phone to scan with and I suspect many of his customers didn't either. So he asked me what we could do?

So I created a text message keyword using SMS with a reply that contained a link to his Facebook page. Now anyone with or without a smartphone could simply text the keyword I provided and they got a link in their reply to his facebook page.

The guy loved this because not only does he have a way for customers to access his FB page from any phone but now he's capturing their cell numbers for some campaigns we might set up.

Anyone else done this, this way? I'd like some feedback since this is the first time I've use SMS to help connect to FB.

Thanks,
Wisln

You would need to make sure the people understood they were opting in to the SMS list but like the idea over all.

I believe the consultive relationship you have built with him will benefit you both.

Personally I would follow up with a second text that sends them a discount.

That way you can say. "Text ______ to 12345 for a link to our Facebook Page, ______ Discount, and to recieve special VIP special right to your phone."

I agree, its a great idea and should be a fairly easy way to get your foot in the door offering this option to a business. Customers should know more of what to expect in the future however when they text in.

You could combine the two by having customers text a word to get a link to a coupon, but only if they "like" the business first. You can use likify to set that up, and its free. So now you are getting FB likes, AND gathering phone numbers for future SMS campaigns.

Thanks for the tips. I too was concerned about the opt-in issue and making sure that prospects knew they were opting in. I like the likify as well as the coupon addition. I'll need to play around with Likify as I've never used it..
