Mobile Site Hosting
 

Hello all,

For those of you selling mobile websites, do you normally host on a sub-domain on your clients host (m.companynam.com) or do you charge to host on your server?

Sub-domain, it's easier, quicker and it's a lot less hassle for the both of you.

I don't provide hosting but I put the mobile site either on a subdomain (mobile.domain.com) or a subdirectory (domain.com/mobile/) based on the client's choice.

When you have the control of your client regular website (ftp, cpanel access...) subdomain is fine)

But most of us don't have access to standard website because done by competitor as you sell mobile site to most business owners with an existing site. Most I've contact their webmasters they were very negative to me, will not allow me to FTP access or even they refuse to add the redirect script in header with all kind of excuses.

So I found that hosting their mobile site is best, I have full control and they pay me monthly fees for hosting/updates.

So how do you manage the redirect from their regular website to the mobile one you're hosting?

I did suggest my clients to add the redirect with their webmaster but as I said there are 2 main problems so I don't ask it anymore:

1- They do not cooperate with some excuses.
2- They will tell your potential customer that they can set a mobile site for extra bucks

The #2 is killing your effort and business. Do you see what I mean? So you lose a potential customer with no more reply.

Solution?
Before you do anything, sign a contract with your potential customer so they won't be able to cancel with you and go with their webmaster.
The biggest problem I have losing potential customer is the first meeting, they always says "We will check with our webmaster" they call and weeks later you see a mobile site done by their webmaster with duda mobile. So you are giving money to their webmaster and a new idea they haven't think before you came to see your prospect. So I suppose that the webmaster might go after all his clients with your idea and cash in! It sucks but it's reallity.

The solution I found is to suggest your client with a .mobi so no need to have a redirect.
They will promote their mobile site with a big icon and link on their main site to your .mobi and this, their webmaster can't say no at all, they get sucked! Then all promotions for coupons, mobile... will be with a .mobi and/or QR code.
