This is a very misleading term we use all the time...

"Mobile Optimized Website."

We tell offline clients, "You need a MOBILE OPTIMIZED WEBSITE."

A much better term is a "mobile website."

The reason "mobile optimized website" is misleading is, it can easily be interpreted to mean, "you need to do something to your current (desktop) site to make it 'mobile optimized'."

Like, it means "you need to make your (current) website "mobile optimized."

Like, "your current site is ok, but we need to do something to it (similar to SEO), so it is (somehow) more "mobile friendly," or something.

Like, "your current site is ok, but we need to tweak it a little..."
That, of course, is NOT what you are proposing at all.

IMO, we need to make it CLEAR to the prospect, what he/she needs in an *entirely new/different* site, that is made to be viewed on a mobile device.

To me this means that you are creating a mobile website that is optimized!

Yes, we are creating a mobile website that is optimized. But the terms "mobile optimized website" can often be misinterpreted to mean something like what I described in the OP. That's why it's a bad term to use (misleading).

There is a such thing as mobile website optimization. For example, the search results are different for mobile devices and Google, etc. can see whether a site is mobile ready and rank/position it accordingly. Also, have you not seen a website that not optimized for mobile? To optimize literally means to make the best or effective use of. So, by definition alone, there is such a thing a mobile optimization. Try throwing mobile traffic at a site that is not optimized for mobile and see how bad the conversions suck if any.

Whatever you call it, it has to be made clear you are making ANOTHER (different) site, not just tweaking their current (desktop) site. You're not just making their current site "mobile friendly."
