Here is a good indicator that people are using their phones more and more for finding local businesses. I have a restaurant client that I've had for about 2 years. I have Google analytics for both the main site and the mobile site. I just did a report for Q1 for 2012 and Q1 for 2013 for both and I was pretty amazed. The main site unique visitor traffic was almost exactly the same from 2012 to 2013 (Jan-March), but the mobile traffic unique visitor count increased by a whopping 69%. Local business owners that don't have a fast loading mobile site with click to call, map, hours, etc. are really missing out on this mobile trend. Little do they know how much business they could be losing. |

So these figures do not surprise me and the great news for the restaurant owner is that those mobile figures are only going to get bigger and bigger.

The trouble is the time will come when click to call, map, hours, etc are not good enough and people will want 'click to order' or 'click to reserve a table' and at the very least a 'live' price list.

We offer this to all of our clients. Going on mjbmedia, that is a VERY good point for the upsell. We tend to offer our clients whatever they want, then we develop new features and keep evolving. We then can come back with an upsell and after you show them this, you have a client for life. Always evolve with your business. Build the relationship by helping them out and you will see huge returns. If you are curious about the mobile ordering, checkout one of our latest blogs by Clicking Here.

Judging from the amount of businesses that don't have a basic mobile site yet, this won't be a concern for a long time, if ever. Besides, my client does have "click to order"...customer taps the "click to call" button and when the call connects they place their order.

What I mean by 'trouble' is that you wont be able to just cobble together a 'mobile site' from a simple template as the interactivity needed will require custom coding. This is excellent news for me but will be a bit of a hurdle for the people who think having a mobile plugin for wordpress is all thats needed. Not to mention the increase in cost.
BTW I am not talking a basic 'joe the plumber' website here as these will always be easy.

The sad part is that too many Restaurant pays large fees to web design firm to have super slick, highly designed 100% flash website. When you try to access those website with your phone, it simply doesn't work... What a waist of leads!

How would a customer do this with a Kindle Fire, iPad or other tablet? easy... include a click to call button that makes a call from the browser using Twilio. A larger screen will not redirect to the mobile site anyway. I include the click to call browser button on desktop websites. Turns the browser into a telephone. You do need a microphone though. |

like I said this will need custom coding and is more involved than using a simple template with the usual click to call, map, hours, etc.. 9.7 inch Android tablet opens all sites in mobile view, Google, Youtube, Twitter, Amazon and Ebay all serve the mobile version to this and another 10 inch tablet I have. I have a couple of 7 inch tablets too, then there is the iPad mini...

No, nothing was done differently for the desktop or mobile. The script just redirected any site visitors to the mobile site if they were on a mobile device. So the 69% increase shows that people that used to access the site on desktop are not doing so on mobile devices.

Yeh my brother is creating a concept similar to yours and getting local businesses into the app industry is a killer idea - they have so much more marketing material scope. It's pretty awesome. Good job - how are you charging them for the service? We're going to charge them monthly maintenance fees |
