What I don’t like about mobile websites….

What I don’t like about mobile websites is that you have to maintain TWO websites.
Would it not be easier to just have only a mobile website? I am only talking about simple websites like for dentists or lawyers. It’s less work, you don’t have to worry about redirects, you don’t have to worry about if google will find the mobile website, not about responsive, adaptive etc.

Also the loading time will be quicker.

Ok, if you use only html then you cannot use plugins, so I am not sure about what will happen with SEO…

What are you opinions?

Particularly for websites for dentists, most visitors are using their mobile devices. If one can only do one thing, a mobile website is better. Mostly, visitors visit these sites for maps and directions, business hours, and the click-to-call feature. Mobile websites load faster and I believe that majority who look for info like this are using their mobile devices to search for it.

Well with HTML it's just a part of the <head> code that picks up and re-directs? Shouldn't be too hard to implement to be honest, same code all the time.

To be honest, if you're maintaining two websites, then you charge for two websites. You need to invoice your clients for what YOU believe your work and time is worth.

You can make more money by maintaining two websites, that’s the good part. But sometimes it’s bothering me to do everything 2x. But I will check it out, the next one I will setup as an only mobile page and then check what the client and others think about it. Maybe the client like it because the cost’s for maintenance will be less because there is only one to maintain…

My thoughts exactly.... I use WP mainly - so I created a plugin that 'pulls' info from the main site, so when you update the Contact Us page on the main site the mobile site Contact Us page is automatically updated. Of course I still have to set up the mobile site... but it is easier as I don't have to recreate the content

Thank you. I know this is doable. But what do you thing about the original idea of using ONLY a mobile website on the main domain? Would you do so?

Hi,

If you can run Wordpress, I would recommend a responsive template and run one website. It really isn't worth the effort updating everything twice. There are beautiful templates that scale right down to an iphone, and up to large monitor sizes.

Responsive does not make any sense to me. You always have to zoom in too few the site or to click on something. That’s why a proper mobile website is much better. In my opinion, responsive is only a solution if someone does not know how to do a mobile site. Not talking about loading times etc.

I prefer responsive design. There are thousands of beautiful responsive WP themes.

The only downside to the idea that I can think of lies in the fact that because of loading time concerns, mobile site pages are somewhat limited as to the quantity of content (especially images) they can contain.

The desktop version allows for a much more comprehensive website for those, at home for instance, who want to find out more about the service provider before making a decision.

Hi,

Here are some mobile demos/samples that also look decent enough as a website. Soooo.....you are building one website, (mobile version), but for those people who DO NOT have a smartphone or tablet, these sites can also be viewed on their home computer or laptop decently enough.

What do you think?
