Hosting Client's Mobile Websites - What to do?
Share on:

My mindset is to start creating a few mobile websites soon with the tools I have but I'm concerned about if customers need hosting for their mobile websites how it's actually done?

What is the process if customers already have their own websites but don't have mobile and need it? My method could be, "Yes you can have mobile website at a good price, but it has to be hosted by me!" - That either will work or it will suck big time!

Would love to hear your thoughts on this, and I hope you understand where I'm coming from?

Kind regards & Thanks

Brian

You don't have to host their site. If you use a tool that includes hosting you would just need the client to have their webmaster put a piece of code in the header of their home page and/or include an m. subdomain pointing to the IP address of the mobile site you are hosting. You can do this with DudaMobile, but you have to pay a fee to setup a reseller account and then $6 per site.

If a potential customer already has hosting (for his or her standard site), then the mobile version of their site could be hosted under the same domain of the standard site; additional hosting is not needed.

Sure, there are marketers who coax clients into paying extra to host a mobile site as a means to generate more income for themselves; however, it's just not good business in my opinion. Sooner or later, the client will find out that the extra cost is not necessary and will not be too thrilled with the marketer.

If a customer already has a main website then I would find it hard to charge them for hosting when it's not needed.

If you do want to charge for hosting then I would not charge a big upfront fee, they instead get to pay the site off via monthly hosting charges. So it's kind of like a payment plan for the mobile website.
