BotNets aren’t go away

Historically since the Internet inception the problem of a fraud and fake has been a headache for anybody who spends his marketing budget on a product or service promotion. Earlier this year the term botnets was coined for the first time. The recent Media6degrees study says the ratio of nonhuman traffic (NHT) it sees on Internet traffic exchange networks has not changed since the issue bubbled up in the press early this year. Specifically the Alphabird network has introduced many clones of websites.

This August, m6d blocked 700 new publications that had audience overlap of between 50% and 100% with at least five other publications – suggesting NHT traffic of a sort observed earlier this year in the Chameleon botnet, responsible for upwards of 9 billion monthly impressions on sites run by Alphabird, DigiMogul and others.

M6d tracks suspicious traffic on 18 platforms, and breaks down their NHT traffic this way:

0-10% suspicious – five platforms (including pure FBX, pure Yahoo and "kind of pure" YouTube)
10-20% suspicious – five platforms
20-30% suspicious – three platforms
30-40% suspicious – three platforms
40-50 % suspicious – two platforms

What is the best way to protect your website against botnets then? If you are running a wordpress site are there plugins that will prevent botnets from accessing your site?

I searched on Google about botnets and found this site. It provides tips on how you can fight back against these botnets. At least I have the advantage of using a Mac. They seem to target Windows. Hope this helps.
