| How Nokia monopolized the mobile market until 2000? What triggered the downfall of its brand image? Overview: Despite being the market leader in the mobile phone market since 1998, the company saw a decline in its brand value since the early 2000s. The year 2004, in particular, saw major erosion in Nokia's brand value as well as its market share. Since 2005, the company started taking various initiatives to revive the 'Nokia' brand. In addition to focusing on innovative products, it decided to move beyond umbrella branding and introduced sub brands. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...sDk/edit?pli=1 |

Hey you wanna know why and how Nokia dropped the ball? Read on... "Delay in giving up the Symbian platform Nokia was the first company to launch a smartphone and it was the only player in this segment until the launch of iPhone by Apple Inc. in 2007. iPhone was young and brilliant with a full touchscreen and a web-based operating system, elegant in its design and performance both-it was simply irresistible , a true innovation. There was no reason that even after iPhone release; Nokia should have had not to lose its share. Surely, iPhone was a new class, new brand, new beauty which was meant to be loved. iPhone ran on a fully web-based operating system iOS and Symbian (the platform running Nokia phones then) was not at all good enough to compete with it. Symbian was the best in the early days of low processing power but Moore’s Law works its own way and by 2007 the processing power of mobiles had gone to new heights. So by then Symbian simply lost the only advantage it had. Yet in the low segment Nokia continued to lead with Symbian until the advent of Android. Android was far and far better than Symbian and with batch of millions of apps in its store made it irresistible. Android phones were cheap and some were even cheaper and yet better than Symbian phones. Android nailed the last blow to Symbian. Yet in spite of reacting to the demand of the time, in spite accepting the incompetency of simian over iOS and android, Nokia continued to try on Symbian only being numb to the demand, being numb to the realities and the market. People simply started preferring Android to Symbian. Still, it was not until the last of 2011, they switched to Windows Mobile Platform. So Nokia had to pay for its hubris of 3 years, and yes it did, and yes it is doing." PS: What is up with the link in your post? |
