What is really starting to "blow up" today and is working for many indie developers is apps for kids. There is a big mommy blogger community to promote online and there is far less competition in the app store.

People I know who have never had a computer in their life have bought tablets just for their kids to play with. Think childrens stories, interactive cartoons etc | |

Well, it depends upon who your target market is. All age groups are now using mobile apps. I really think that is the first thing that you should consider. But I also think that games can be a big hit on almost all age groups, especially to kids and teenagers which, I believe, make up the biggest portions of the entire market.

Yes to games. And if you plan to make apps regularly, you might as well consider turning it into a series of some sort after you come up with a successful one. You will get more chances of earning downloads with multiple apps and mobile users will come looking for more if they see that you make interesting ones.

I agree withone warriomforum poster above. Mobile games app would be a good source of residual income. You might also want to invest with a niche blog such as making money online and the likes. That woul give you extrra $100 or more, depending on how profitable your niche is.

If you want an app that can be popular really fast, you should certainly create games. Some do not even have to be "good" to be able to be popular. Just know good marketing strategies and make your promotional materials enticing. I remember downloading a game from PlayStore because it was among the top free games. I downloaded it and it sucked big time, but it had tons of downloads. |

Hackbridge I'd say, go for mobile websites instead. Apps are generally useful but not all niche can invest in such and many apps do not get approval in Google Play and Apps store. Mobile websites are simple to build and you get a mobile presence overnight!

Apps that provide to solutions to problems. Some best sellers are ebook apps on how to stop snoring, treat yeast infection, get dates, etc. There are lots of games out there. Unless you have a great idea for a game, I would stay away. Be creative and test. You'll find something that works. Happy Holidays! WiLd |
