Considering that mobile internet usage is overtaking desktop usage, it can help you with increased traffic, more sales, greater outreach, etc etc etc. Mobile just means more of everything and if you aren't optimized for it, you're missing out on a lot of it.

The big difference between a mobile website and a desktop website is that your mobile website can be accessed when your customers are most interested in your product. E.g. they see you ad whilst waiting for the dentist, they can get answers to questions there and then. They do not have to try and remeber your web address later that on when they are bnear their computer. Also mobile website is is easy to share to other people's phones, it improves word of mouth recomondations. I think the question should be redefined, should you bother with a desktop website at all, just have a mobile website.

This, exactly. Mobile websites are designed, too, for the convenience of those are no longer using their laptops. Just be sure to achieve the primary purpose of mobile websites and that is to be a faster-loading page more than desktop sites. Also, if you decide to make both desktop and mobiles sites, do your best to make the both contain similar amounts of content.

1- Who is your target market? 2- What do you sell on your website? 3- Along the same line as #2, is your product digital or physical? 4- Are you trying to get customers into a traditional brick and mortar business? This and any additional information you share with the Forum will help you get the best answers to your question.

I totally agree with JustinDupre! Interaction with online retailers via mobile actually surpassed interaction with online retailers via desktop and laptop in June. Having a mobile-optimized website is absolutely crucial for any ecommerce business!

I didn't notice this response, at first, but yes, great point. Just look at Instagram now and look at how many people are being able to build virtual shops and make money out of the place. I am not sure about how much traffic Instagram is making or if it is making traffic at all, but it just shows that mobile Internet usage is already starting to dominate.
