It just released the latest WP theme, and it is responsive and good looking on mobile devices after testing. That means that it is killing the mobile website design business. Anybody using wordpress with no mobile coding knowledge will be able to display their site on mobile devices. I will surely see some prospect saying me: oh we have a responsive WP site, and we don't need a mobile site! Previously, most prospects were saying: we don't need the mobile friendly website because we are on Facebook, and it is mobile, optimized and free! 2014 will be more and more difficult to convince business owners. |

I agree in principle, with Wordpress and other open source software, it's becoming easier than ever for anyone to start developing. This is a good thing. It doesn't mean the end for developers of websites or apps, I'm sure plenty of folks who implement twenty-fourteen will still need help extending the theme even further. |

Great! So now Wordpress is going to be delivering 80 foot long columns of assorted and disarranged images and text in one massive god-awful mess and calling it a "mobile optimised" site. lol...classic At least now the smart marketers are going to be flooded with even more work once people realise that responsive websites suck more than a Kirby, utterly destroy a business's reputation and all chances of a lead liking them and repel clients faster than their original unoptimised site. If you ask me, Wordpress just did us all a massive favour! Which is fantastic! Unless you like having fools for clients. They just saved you a lot of time and trouble - working with fools is no fun at all. |

I'm not saying that mobile design is dead but will be harder and harder to compete with responsive design. Don't get me wrong, I go out me and my team everyday and meet business owners and they all looking for free stuff like Facebook, WP,... or cheap online services like $100/year for a full website that is responsive too (I see many biz using it). When we show our price list they simply say we'll think and call you but never call back or reject our offer. My price is not really high, it starts like 5 pages for $500/year so this is really affordable. I can't tell you everyday story here it will take hours but it's amazing how these biz owners are always looking through their budget and they all prefer Facebook, with all the best argues as a marketer we have over having a website or mobile site have no effects, they trust on FB more than anything for business for several reasons like: It's free, they can manage, having many fans is making them money, sharing a promo item will be shared all over FB fans, they can do ads.... So why bother with mobile or full website. | |

Yeah I have actually and I wasn't impressed but just to make sure I just went to visit a few more including Twenty Fourteen | A beautiful magazine theme (which was over 23 page scrolls long), Twenty Fourteen Theme — WordPress Themes for Blogs at WordPress.com (8 page scrolls and almost nothing but boring text - an appalling example of a designed-for-mobile website) totally unsuitable for a business website in my view. I just can't see "squashing a website and hiding the navigation" as being all that's needed to build an effective mobile website that's truly optimised for the mobile visitor. |

I've used twenty fourteen for a landing page and I was really positively surprised how good it looks in mobile phone. So much better than other themes I've used previously.
