I built it and they didnt come :(

A friend of mine has completed a game in the same style as flappy birds. Whats the best legit way for him to market this title on the IOS store

You should join some iOS developer forums or if you used any engine or framework then join those forums and post your game link there and also have the link in your sig.

Create a Facebook page for the game and youtube game play videos also the games own website.

Also a google search for ios game reviews will bring up a list of sites to contact or post comments on.

Have a look in the WSO section for press release service.

The flappy bird crave is pretty much over, if you are getting in now you will need a lot of marketing but there are so many clones out there, that marketing the game may not even help.

Best Market platform is facebook you can make a facebook page and promote it

Since people are mentioning Facebook: We had pretty good results with Facebook's mobile targeted advertising when we launched a couple jumper games. I remember something like $.10 per install at one point. If the game is addictive, you can hope this will result in your users telling other users about the game, and of course you get a temporary lift in the AppStore rankings. Hope this helps!
