Hi marketing gurus, Currently, I own a stock market app. The daily downloads is just merely crossing 100 users. I was wondering, is there any method to increase number of downloads. So far, here are the methods I had tried. None of them work effectively. The app is using freemium model. User are free to try out selected features. For advance features, they need to perform in-app purchase. Also, for free version, it comes with AdMob mobile advertisement. 1) Introduce stock market app in stock market forums. Not effective & can easily banned by site admin. 2) Introduce stock market app in reddit. Not effective & can easily banned by site admin. 3) Write to Android app review site to request for app reviewing. Not effective and get no respond from editors so far. 4) Write to stock market blog site to request for app reviewing. Not effective and get no respond from bloggers so far. 5) Encourages users to share app with friends. Once they share the app with enough friends, they can unlock premium features with discounted price ($0.99). Not effective. Less than 200 users had done so. 6) Spend $2k in facebook advertising. Not effective. The $ being spent can hardly covered by in-app purchase sales. 7) Cross promoting using my free & open source desktop product. I think is more effective, but I can hardly measure the outcome as I can't install Google Ananlytics in Google Play Store page. This is the site for free & open source product - Download - JStock I was wondering, is there any cost effective & efficient way, to increase my app downloads in long term? Thank you. |

How many downloads did the $2k spent in facebook get you? If you cant measure the downloads from #7 it may not be as effective as you think. Have you considered Mobile PPC? Its one of the best options to drive app downloads. | |

I think you should extensively work on ASO. If the downloads are limited then its either or a combination of the following things. 1. Either your app doesn't have any necessary utility or users don't need this. 2. Or your app is not reaching the hands of the target users. That means your app name, app keywords are not optimized. 3. Or your app is reaching the hands of customers, but users are not downloading. This means that your app icon, screenshot is not attractive and engaging enough. Also, your app description might not be properly written to generate interest. So, for now, your key target should be revamping the app through Appstore optimization. After optimization, if the download increases, you can then decide on investing money for advertising. My experience says, fb app install, or admob campaign is not very productive in generating downloads or purchase for niche apps like your one. One thing that I can recommend you is to contact other fellow developers and arrange a sort of barter campaign for cross promotion. You can show his ad and he can show yours, and at the end of the day track the performance. Best of luck |

It really depends on what kind of stock market app it is? There are a lot of stock market apps in the App Store and Google Play but take a look at the downloads of the ones that are currently on top. That niche maybe a good niche to make an app in but the downloads will be low and you have to also look at the more popular apps which everyone already uses. Your app will have to be different in some way and that is what you want to market. Also translate the app to different languages. |
