What do you guys think of this concept? In a few years, local businesses will know when you're within a few blocks of them, and they'll be able to send you custom "% off" coupons straight to your Smartphone. The ad platform will run straight through the SIM card. I think it's smart marketing, but personally I would find it extremely annoying. Besides, around 80% of purchases are planned beforehand. Clearly the geofence concept is all about maximizing impulse buys, and that's great. The only problem I see is that people will catch on that the "% off" coupons are not, in fact, transient. Ignore them one day, and you'll likely be hit with another the next time you're in close proximity to the store anyway. Thoughts? |
On the whole, you get what you pay for.

If you have customer already coming into your store then why would you give them a coupon. However, if your customer decides to visit your competition then you could push them a text for a coupon offer once they pull into your competition's parking lot.
