Are you having success getting people to opt to receive push notifications?

Can anyone tell from their own experience if they get high percentages of acceptance on push notifications?

Hi, push notifications usually have high CR.
Between users, is a very good converting tool, however, most of clients use to think that push notifications are a way of incentivation (that is not to far from what it really is), and that quality is really bad.
As per my experience, the quality of the user that downloads an app by push notifications is pretty good, similar to the user that makes an organical download.

I have had great success using push notifications. When adding a link, I have been averaging almost 25% click through to my landing pages. I typically only send 1 or 2 notifications per month per app just to keep them high quality and responsive. I have seen many app developers get bad reviews when sending too many notifications.

You guys are seeing a high percentage of app downloads as well?
That's my only concern with push notifications is that it requires the end user to download your app via itunes or google play.

I have been fairly successful with getting app downloads, but it has been a nearly 3 year journey to learn what works and what doesn't. I have two year old apps with less than 500 downloads and other apps with 50,000+ downloads. It is all in choosing the right niche and tweaking your listings in the app stores to maximize exposure.

Thanks guys. I have done native apps for local businesses and I have not had success in getting their customers to accept push notifications. This may be different from those of you who make niche apps. The feedback I have gotten from my business clients is that some of their customers don't know what push notifications are. Others simply don't want to be bothered. Part of it is my fault as I wasn't good at instructing my clients to limit the amount of PN they were sending. I think some of their customers ended up uninstalling the app altogether.

I should have been clearer in my question. For those of you who make native apps for local businesses, are you having success at getting their customers to accept PN? It just doesn't seem to have caught on like SMS marketing.

Thanks.

I have had some great success with PN's even with smb apps. The key has been the business owner 'preselling' the app. Place a table tent near the check out and they ask every customer "have you down loaded our mobile app? It has great information and every once in awhile we send out messages through the app with exclusive deals just for people with the app installed."

The problem I have seen is many business owners expect thousands of downloads without promoting the app. Like in the 80's, people would start a business, buy an ad in the yellow pages and wait by the phone.

I agree, the biz owner needs to properly promote the app to his customers and website visitors. Mobile websites make it easy for users to install the app with one click, so perhaps sending prospects to a mobile website first might be a good way to go.
