Hi I'm new so be gentle to me . Lately I have seen many of my local businesses who do not have good mobile websites. This has sparked an intrest in me to learn how to build mobile websites for companies that already have an existing site. I have looked at a few companies such as dudamobile and bmobilized. However I find their pricing a little much to pitch to customers. I want to use wordpress for new companies that don't have a website yet as I understand wordpress has a plugin to make the site mobile friendly.

So my question is there an open-source software similar to wordpress to build mobile sites for businesses that already have a website?

Any other pointers?

ghoward11, you can find some free to use softwares but you will have tons of disadvantages:

1. Your customers will know that you are using not your own platform, but someone else's, because it will leave a digital footprint that will be obvious to your prospects.
2. Your customers mobile experience will not be any closer compared to mobile websites built on no-digital-footprint, your own brand platforms.

Selling mobile websites should be easy when you know how to make your prospects understand the value of what you are selling. LMK, if you need more assistance. Hope that helps!

Raymond what do you recommend that I use?
I know the value of mobile websites. i just need the tools to be able to create these mobile sites. Are you saying wordpress is not a good solution for websites in general?

Hey Howard,

I like your idea there, but there's more to worry about than learning how to build mobile websites.

Let me share my thoughts here...

It is best to analyze your data further, you might want to answer questions like...

Are they actively building their online presence?

If not, how can building a mobile website contribute to their business goals? This is where you bridge the gap for them.

Also, you have to check who are your competition, what are they doing successfully, and what not?

You want to dig deeper first or else you end up investing your time and effort on the rotten tomatoes.

Also define your audience first and for most. Create a psychographics and demograpics so you know who you're talking to.

If your marketing to business who know nothing about CMS and wants to be able to manage some parts of the site (i.e. comments, posting and stuff) I'd say wordpress is the best one to go.

When it comes to learning how to build a mobile site - I'd really go with Raymond's suggestion. It's better to brand your own work (if you consider doing it for the longer run).

But before you can market your service, you need to position yourself as a leading expert first. Branding is really a game changer.

But I'd strongly encourage you to push this idea. Let us know how you go with it.
